The latest court cases in Oxford Magistrates' Court in our Scales of Justice feature, the first of 2025.
CHRISTOPHER HAWKINS, 48, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to one count of using threatening behaviour in Henley on July 15, one count of failing to surrender to police or court bail, two counts of assault by beating in Henley on July 15, one count of breaking a car window to the value of £100 on the same day and two counts of thefts from shops in Henley committed on July 2 and 15. He must comply with the orders of the responsible officer to attend appointments for a maximum of 15 days and must complete 80 hours of unpaid work within 12 months. He must also pay a total in compensation of £250.
JAMES TAGGART, 26, of The Avenue, Bloxham, pleaded guilty to drug driving in a Mercedes A Class on September 10 this year on Courtington Lane, Bloxham. He also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and while disqualified on the same day, in the same car. He was banned from the road for five years and must pay costs of £85. He was also given a jail sentence of six months, suspended for 18 months. He must also undergo six months of mental health rehabilitation and comply with the orders of the responsible officer to attend appointments for a maximum of 10 days. He must also complete 80 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.
DANIEL JOHNSON, 37, of Cartmel, Bicester, pleaded guilty to drug driving a Mercedes Benz on Whitelands Way, Bicester, on July 31 this year. He was banned from the road for 12 months and must pay costs of £85, a victim surcharge of £160 and a fine of £400.
JIMMY DOWN, 37, of Woodhill Lane Caravan Park, East Challow, pleaded guilty to three counts of drug driving a Nissan Navara committed while driving on the A417 on September 11 and on the A34 on September 18. He was banned from driving for 24 months and must pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £114. He must also complete 60 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.
RYAN PONTING, 42, of Speedwell Arch, Harwell, pleaded guilty to drink driving at the BP Service Station, Milton, on November 4 this year. He also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and resisting a police officer in the execution of their duty. He was banned from the road for 36 months, but this can be reduced by 36 weeks if a course is completed by February 4 2027. He must also pay costs of £85, a victim surcharge of £400 and a fine of £1,000.
AARON SHALLIS, 47, of Canal Street, Oxford, pleaded guilty to stealing drinks from a shop in Oxford on December 4 and failing to surrender to police bail. He was fined a total of £215.
