Biography

TONY DEWS joins the Jets as the team's running backs coach after six seasons with the Tennessee Titans, serving as the running backs coach (2018-22) and tight ends coach (2023).

Prior to the 2023 season, Dews became the tight ends coach for the Titans, helping Chigoziem Okonkwo reach a career high in receptions (54) and receiving yards (528).

From 2018 through 2022, Dews saw running back Derrick Henry lead the League in rushing attempts, yards and touchdowns. Over that span, Henry had 1,464 carries for 7,101 yards with 68 touchdowns with a League-high 32 100-yard rushing games.

In 2022, Henry received a Pro Bowl selection after finishing the season with 1,538 yards and 13 touchdowns and second in rushing yards (1,653). With a career-high 398 receiving yards, Henry's 1,936 scrimmage yards ranked fifth in franchise history and was the second-best number of his career (2,141 in 2020).

In 2021, the Titans finished fifth in rushing offense, averaging 141.4 rushing yards per game. Henry ranked ninth in the NFL with 937 rushing yards despite missing nine games. With Henry out, D'Onta Foreman (566 rushing yards) and Dontrell Hilliard (350) each set career highs in rushing yards. From Week 12 to Week 18, Foreman ranked sixth in the NFL with 482 rushing yards.

In 2020, the Titans finished second in the NFL in rushing offense (168.1 yards per game), while Henry became the first player since LaDainian Tomlinson (2006-07) to lead the NFL in rushing yards in consecutive years. Henry produced the eighth 2,000-yard rushing season in League history, earning the Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year. His 17 rushing touchdowns set a career high and finished as the second-best total in franchise history behind Earl Campbell's 19 rushing touchdowns in 1979.

In 2019, the Titans finished third in the NFL in rushing (138.9 yards per game). Henry was named to the Pro Bowl and added second-team Associated Press All-Pro honors after leading the NFL with 1,540 rushing yards, which also was the fourth-highest total in franchise history. Over the final six games of the regular season plus three playoff appearances, Henry register seven 100-yard games. During a three-game stretch, Henry became the first player in NFL history to rush for at least 180 yards in three consecutive regular season and/or postseason games.

During his first season with the Titans (2018), Henry ranked second in the AFC with 1,059 rushing yards and third in the NFL with 12 rushing touchdowns. Additionally, that season, Henry became the second player in NFL history (Tony Dorsett) with a 99-yard touchdown run. Additionally, Dion Lewis set a career high with 59 receptions and 400 receiving yards with a total of 917 scrimmage yards, the second-highest total of his career.

Before the Titans, Dews spent nearly two decades coaching college football, spending time with Millersville (1998), West Virginia (1999-01, 2007, 2017), California (PA) (2002), Holy Cross (2003), Central Michigan (2004-05), UNLV (2006), Michigan (2008-10), Pittsburgh (2011), and Arizona (2012-16). Across his career, Dews has coached every offensive and defensive position besides quarterback.

Dews and his wife, Tamika, have four daughters together.
