DANVILLE — Motorists traveling north through Danville on Gilbert Street, crossing Memorial Bridge, will be down to one lane for the next week, with road work on the bridge expected to start Monday.
The northbound lanes of Gilbert Street (Illinois 1/U.S. 150) from Bluff Street to Main Street over the Vermilion River in Danville will be closed one at a time Monday through June 14, weather permitting, the Illinois Department of Transportation said.
Both southbound lanes will remain open, according to IDOT.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
