REO Speedwagon

REO Speedwagon, formed in Champaign, was part of the inaugural class of inductees into the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum.

REO Speedwagon, the classic rock band with Champaign ties, will no longer be able to sing “Back On The Road Again.” Or be back on the road again, either.

The band announced it will no longer tour, effective Jan. 1.

The group announced on social media that irreconcilable differences have led to the decision to stop touring.

The consensus opinion of band members, according to the announcement, is that Bruce Hall, who has been unable to tour of late, has not sufficiently recovered “to the level the fans have come to expect.”

One report said Hall underwent back surgery last fall and was recovering.

“Bruce respected that opinion and is grateful that Matt (Bissonette) has been around to keep the wagon rolling through the summer tour,” the band’s statement said.

Hall did not intend to retire or walk away from the band, having performed for almost 50 years.

“Due to this complex situation, irreconcilable differences arose between Bruce and Kevin (Cronin),” the band said, prompting the decision to no longer tour after this year.

Formed in 1967, the band had 13 top 40 hits and has sold more than 40 million records.
