Gannett Tries Limited Print Subscription Offer: Report

Gannett is testing a subscription offer that offers only one or two days of print.

The campaign is running from Tuesday to Friday this week, Poynter reports. There is a Sunday print plus digital option or Sunday plus one weekday such as Wednesday, it continues.

New subscribers cannot obtain a seven- or six-day trial subscription, but existing subscribers can keep the ones they have.

USA Today is not included—its print plus digital offer is for five days per week, Poynter reports.

The basic Sunday or Sunday-plus offer is for an initial rate of 92 cents a week, typically for three months

In 2022, Gannett discontinued Saturday editions at 136 newpapers.

The company reported a 2.9% increase in total digital revenues to $277.2 million in its recent fourth quarter financials even while it suffered an 8.4% decline overall. Digital now accounts for 41% of total revenue, CEO Mike Reed recently said.
