Two Mississippi Newspapers Are Shuttered

Two Mississippi weeklies have closed, resulting in the loss of 11 jobs.

The century-old Jasper County News and the Smith County Reformer have closed because of financial reasons, Clarion Ledger reports. Both were owned by Buckley Newspapers Inc.

A third Buckley publication called Impact was also closed.

"I'm just kind of taking it day by day," said Kevan Lindsey, former general manager for Buckley Newspapers, according to Clarion Ledger. "I got a call from our H.R. that we weren't projected to make payroll. I went and talked to our company lawyer and he advised that we close immediately."
