Ad Market Expands For 14th Month In May, Signals Possible Deceleration

The U.S. ad market expanded for its 14th consecutive month in May, albeit at a modest 1.9%, according to Guideline's just-updated U.S. Ad Market Tracker.

May's tepid year-over-year growth may signal a slowdown to the post-recession market expansion that kicked off the 14-month growth spurt, because it compares with a relatively moderate year-over-year growth rate of 3.2% in May 2023.

Moreover, all of May's growth came from smaller ad categories, because the top 10 actually declined 1.8% year-over-year, while all others expanded 6.4%.
