'The New York Times' Adds Listen And Custom Interest Tabs To Its News App

The New York Times has updated its News app for iOS and Android to enhance the audio experience while personalizing the app based on the reader’s interests.

In one improvement, the Times has added a Listen tab on iOS. It serves as a hub for daily journalism, providing a daily playlist of top stories.

In addition, users can listen to articles read by an automated voice as soon as they are published. This puts a large portion of the paper’s written news content into audio form.

Moreover, the Times is now offering a You tab, a personalized space where readers can find content about their particular interests.

Readers can access their reading history and saved articles and obtain suggestions based on their reading habits.

"Our News app serves as a massive entry point to The Times and helps us meet people’s most important news and life needs every single day," says Alex Hardiman, chief product officer of the Times

Hardiman adds that this is part of an ongoing effort to “get our journalism to audiences in more creative, accessible and direct ways.”
