I’ve seen a lot of UK based coaches get rejected again this week for the latest round of UEFA badges. With the system operating the way it is, where does it leave these coaches? It looks as though the badges are massively over subscribed with prerequisites getting tighter by the season. A natural consequence of this, is that the ‘queue’ will get even bigger in the coming years with even more coaches applying for these spots, when they become available. I’ve seen some coaches apply for 10 years straight with no recognisable progress, so you have to admire their determination greatly. Questions have to be asked though, as to (really) why more coaches aren’t afforded these opportunities? Does the English FA have to review the system (again) and invest time/money into where it’s needed? From my understanding, the ‘Level 1’ is now an entry level course delivered online - which will generate high amounts of revenue, with minimal expense. There must be question marks also on those who operate at the top and are responsible for ‘designing’ these ‘models’. For me, the future really doesn’t look great for all of these upcoming coaches in England.
