Text Leads to 21002: Question of the Week: What Prewar Car Would You Drive Daily Today?—WINNER’S UPDATE: WINNER’S ANNOUNCEMENT:
Happy Tuesday everyone! We’re back to announce the winner for our Question of the Week. Today our victor will take home the spoils, which in this case means a $25 credit for a hat or T-shirt from the BaT Gear Store.
Our question was: what prewar car would you drive daily today?
A great response from the BaT community! After reading the 100-plus comment thread, we noticed an assortment of guiding principles—from practical points to aesthetic reasons—that brought out cars (and trucks) that would’ve otherwise been left mothballed for this thought experiment. We certainly appreciate it! In the end, this is a competition, and we must announce a winner. The Cord 812 was the most-mentioned pick this week, and the winning comment came from BaT member LITS2DBC!
"If I were an undertaker, the 1937 Cord 812S Sportsman would be my obvious vehicle of choice. (It's a car to die for.) ;)"

For all its veneration, the C3 Corvette was never particularly effective in any racing format. The massive and powerful V-8's available just made the driving geometry even more unbalanced and difficult to handle. On the street, such vehicles just puke heat onto the driver requiring massive A/C units on almost constantly and driving your mileage down to the 6-8 miles per gallon range on a big block. If you drove the high-compression motors, A/C wasn't available and you'd see doofuses driving around with their windows wide open in winter to shed some heat. To make matters worse, the brakes were ridiculously undersized and continuously failed on this model. They were so difficult to drive and optimized for little beyond picking up chicks that A LOT of them survive to this day. It's a tough platform and not nearly as difficult to safely maintain as a HEMI, but it's also a difficult vehicle to drive very far and enjoy. Expect many to be available in the near future as their primary enthusiasts die-off. Unlike most muscle cars, relatively easy to get parts for since almost every time you take it out of the garage something will break. Finding competent people to work on them is a far more difficult task. You could get them in at least 7 different motor options.

THE MUSCLE BOYS, PART VI.
12 Hours of Sebring, March 1968. The Sunray DX Oil Company Corvette Team during practice. The No. 2 Corvette was driven by Pedro Rodriguez/Don Yenko, the No. 3 Corvette by Hap Sharp/Dave Morgan, and the No. 4 Corvette by Tony DeLorenzo/Jerry Thompson. The original team consisted of the No. 2 and No. 3 Corvettes; the No. 4 Corvette was an added entry to the team for that race but owned separately by DeLorenzo. The No. 3 Corvette finished 6th overall and 1st in GT+5.0; the No. 2 and No. 4 Corvettes did not finish.
