Employers: Please stop requiring 2-5 years of experience on a job that’s listed as entry level. You know that isn’t entry level. That’s at least junior level. It’s frustrating as job seekers who are wanting new experiences and opportunities to see an entry level position needing someone to have 2-5 years of experience. Entry level means 0 years of experience. Stop lying just to get a click on your listing. It’s frustrating and dishonest. Allow people with little to no experience in something to apply and have a real chance on learning new skills.

Why Entry-Level Job Requirements Feel Absurd Last chapter, Skills-based hiring, is awesome. Lacking enough or the right experience, skills, credentials and/or education ranked second among the biggest barriers for jobseekers in 2022, according to McKinsey & Co. The cooling labor market has made it more difficult to find a job. Kory Kantenga, Senior Economist at LinkedIn, said that is felt acutely in the entry-level job market. Some workplace experts blame inflated job requirements and layoffs of recruiters, while others point to a skills miss-match between available jobs and recent graduate degrees. Watch the video to find out why job requirements have become so demanding and what that means for the entry level workforce. Employers, please:It’s called entry-level for a reason. Asking for experience for entry level role is unrealistic.Where would the experience come from? From the mother’s womb,I guess. Hiring managers, need to do better. “Entry-level positions are designed to provide opportunities for people to gain experience.”Experience shouldn’t be a requirement for every entry-level role. #entrylevel #careerdevelopment #opportunity

What’s been on my mind: The Job Market can be tough, especially for Job starters. Companies posting entry-level positions but then requiring 2 to 5 years of experience in the fine print are not hiring entry level individuals. This is hiring trained professionals without paying market value for their skills. It's important to invest time and effort into bringing new talent on board. Entry level means no experience required. #exploitation #noentrylevelwithexperience #investinculture #investintalent

Let's talk about "Entry Level" roles and what that means. Entry Level roles should be roles created for someone without experience, or with little experience in a particular field. Entry Level should cover 0 to 2 years of experience in any skillset/dicipline/language/etc.... By no means does this mean that someone has to be a master in any requiring. If you are posting Entry Level roles, it's very important to write your job post accordingly. These roles are set-up for students, those transitioning to a new discipline, and to those who have minimal experience. I'm seeing a number of Job Postings that are asking the world of the so-called Entry Level candidate that you are looking for which leads me to believe that either: - the person posting didn't read the generic post template before posting the job, or - the person posting the role is trying to hire someone with more experience for less money. In either case, this has to stop. We are still in such a volatile market and this juat adds confusion and frustration and likely candidates dropping out of contention when they realize exactly what the role is. Of course as I write this, I know it will fall on deaf ears as companies don't seem to take any accountability as this continues to happen on the daily so recruiters, I challenge you to really comb through your job postings and ensure that they are in fact accurate to what you are hiring and ensuring that you are screening accordingly.

Entry-level jobs = 0 years of experience. So why are hiring managers asking for 3-5 years? Expecting 3-5 years of experience for an entry-level job is just a tactic to underpay someone who’s already skilled. Entry-levels aren't asking for a lot. They just want an opportunity. They want to make a difference and reach their full potential. But they don't have years of experience so don't ask for it! Have you faced this issue?
