We asked one of our Division Managers, James Pinder, some quick fire questions about all things renewables... 1. What have you found candidates are looking for most in a new role? As per the recent poll on LI, the number 1 mover is still career growth, with pay being number 2. Career growth in Renewable Energy often looks like taking on more responsibility, managing larger projects, in terms of size and budget, or leading larger teams. 2. Why are people leaving current roles? Aside from the usual reasons: poor management, lack of growth and learning opportunities, we have seen one big reason. Candidates working for foreign-owned companies, specifically Chinese manufacturers are banging down the door of companies with domestic manufacturing capabilities as they are worried about the future of their firm after the US government’s stance on banning Chinese imports. 3. What are the most in demand skillset you’re seeing in Renewables? Given the long interconnection in CAISO, many firms are eager to hire candidates with experience developing projects in other regions, the pacific north west (PNW) is a hot spot we are seeing Several large players are investing in their Green Hydrogen division. Candidates who have successfully developed H2 projects are few and far between, thus in high demand 4. What is most exciting about Renewables right now? The rate of innovation in the Renewable Energy space in north America is truly astounding. The presence of large investment funds, providing the necessary finances to transition away from traditional energy sources is resulting in dozens of new companies popping up week after week. This will no doubt bring with it new ways of thinking and operating. Thanks for your thoughts, James 🙂 #OPRenewables #Renewables #RenewablesTrends

We asked one of our Principal Associates, Josie Coffey, some quick fire questions about hiring in the Renewables sector... 1. What have you found candidates are looking for most in a new role? Skill enhancement – people are often looking for companies / roles that give exposure to emerging technologies so they can widen their portfolio. Utility-scale projects often gain the most interest from the candidate market. 2. Why are people leaving current roles? Frequent change in management is often the primary reason employees seek new opportunities, pulling people towards stable companies with consistent leadership. 3. What are the most in demand skillsets/ job titles you’re seeing in Renewables? Project Developers – people who have experience with land acquisition, permitting, land leasing, contract negotiation. 4. What is most exciting about the Renewables sector right now? Lots of development in the storage space which is crucial! Wind and solar energy remain at the forefront of Europe’s renewable energy expansion. Onshore wind and utility-scale solar projects, especially those paired with energy storage, are competing well against fossil fuels. Thanks to various tax credits and subsidies, these renewable projects are becoming more financially viable, even with the current economic challenges. Thank you for your thoughts, Josie Coffey! #OPRenewables #Hiring #RenewablesJobs
