Looking for a job in news? This is a role that will give you: - Creativity to help out in an "assignment desk" capacity. My digital content producers should always be pitching, developing and planning impactful content. You must have an understanding of the elements required to present the full story. - A place to be a self-starter. This is (in my mind) the single most important thing you can bring to the table. Don't wait for others to tell you who to call, what to chase and what questions to ask. You will have flexibility to be aggressive with news coverage and features for yourself and to pitch for our beat reporters in a way you can help maximize story telling. - Space to do the job. Instead of micromanagement, I'm more about macromanagement. You get freedom to do the job, as long as the job is done. Be prepared for -- the possibility of this role covering second shift/weekends. If that's a problem, news is probably not your jam. We don't keep bankers hours. Additionally, this is not a work from home role. You will have the flexibility to work from home during inclement weather and in other situations where we adapt to the day as best as we can -- but be prepared to work in the newsroom. Recently, I overheard a well-known creative director in our industry say, of a very talented editor, "If he's so good, then why is he available?" This attitude is trash. Never before have we had such an incredible pool of top talent, available and looking for work. If you're in the trailer industry, chances are you can name three PHENOMENAL editors who aren't staffed anywhere and are looking for their next gig. (If you know me, you can at least name one 😉 ) Many shops have let go of half of their editors. This doesn't make us the bottom half of talent. Some of us are senior-level and cost more to keep around. It's a budget issue, not a talent issue. If your shop has a hiring need, I URGE you to take a look at available talent before you go scouring the rosters of other shops. I'm seeing way too many "lateral moves" and not enough unattached editors getting picked up. Not naming names, but We Can do better.

I don't know why people think there's a career path from Assistant Editor to Editor. 😂 There isn't. They are two different jobs. It's like saying how long do I have to be a dishwasher before I get promoted to waiter or waitress. In order to get a job as an Editor 🧙♀️🧙♂️ you have to *BE* an Editor. The only reason someone would hire an Assistant Editor to edit is because THEY ALREADY KNOW YOU and they're going to give you a chance to blow it for their business. Nobody's going to say well they've been assisting for 6 years, so let me hire them to edit. In my case, I skipped that phase entirely and my first job was AS AN EDITOR 🦸♂️ for music videos that aired on MTV, VH1, etc. Therefore, when I went to other companies and offered to assist them, they looked at my reel and knew that I had completed IMPORTANT programs for IMPORTANT people and they hired me to do the same thing for them. 🤝 ==== If your goal is to move from Assistant Editor to Editor, what you have to do is find things TO EDIT so you can show your work to someone who needs the same service that you've proved you can provide. You have to do BOTH at the same time. Assist and Edit. The only jobs you're going to get from being an Assistant Editor are more Assistant Editor jobs. #Business #VideoEditing #FirstWorldProblems

recently, i saw this post on linkedin in which this person is hiring editor for 35rs per reel. Is the editing market is so saturated with this level of desperate editors that they are ready to work? I don't care whether it's a long project or bulk project or anything. But all i know is no reel or editor deserves to work at this cost. What's your view regarding this? #videoediting #videoeditor
