During a book tour in Europe, he does a reading at Shakespeare and Company, where three journalists interview him: one is convinced the novel's characters meet again, another that they do not, and a third who wants them to but is doubtful that will occur. Céline also attends the reading. Required to leave for the airport in an hour, Jesse and Céline use the time to roam Paris. Their conversations soon become deeply personal, and they passionately discuss work, politics and lament their failure to meet again in Vienna or exchange contact details. Céline informs she did not return as her grandmother died, and Jesse claims that he did not return either; after Céline asks him why he did not, he confesses that he did return. They reveal how their lives have changed in the nine years apart: Jesse is married and has a son named Hank, while Céline has become an environmental activist and is in a relationship with a photojournalist. Their old romantic feelings become slowly rekindled while walking around Paris. Jesse says his novel was inspired by the hope of seeing Céline again, and she says that reading it caused painful memories. To learn more watch the video and see clips. People usually roll their eyes when I say he may be one of my favorite directors. When you’re interested in cinema, there's no more snobbish and cliché choice. But I don’t care – of course – and I’m always keen to talk about Bergman. I must admit that I consider some of his movies a big scam and bullshit – I feel some overly used schemes without any deeper thought behind them. 'Cries and Whispers,' for example, was a great disappointment. What a pretentious and annoying thing. So how good must his other movies be to still rank him in my top 10 directors? They must be painfully honest, showing people as they are, without any filters. There are not many directors in the 20th century who could portray female characters completely without stereotypical filters, just as characters with such perspicacity and without easy labels. And relationships – what a dangerously honest portrait. Things we usually refuse to acknowledge – and after watching, there's this quiet thought – 'Could it be about me?' Bergman has been summarized so many times that I just want to present my visual version of all my thoughts about his movies. Here is this dangerously honest portrait, a reflection of a viewer. #Bergman #Cinema #poster #movieposter

Jesse reflects on his inability to maintain his relationship with his teenage son, Hank. Hank flies home to Chicago after vacationing with the couple and their children on the Greek Peloponnese peninsula, and lives with his mother, Jesse's ex-wife. Jesse is a successful novelist, while Céline is at a career crossroads, considering a job with the French government. The couple discuss their concerns over Hank, as well as Céline's career, and reflect on love and life over dinner with friends. Their friends pay for a hotel room for the couple; while walking to the hotel, Jesse and Céline reminisce about their initial meetings, and wonder if they would become a couple if they met in their present state. "Problemista" is a surreal comedy film marking Julio Torres' directorial debut. The movie revolves around Alejandro, an ambitious toy designer from El Salvador, struggling to make his dreams come true in New York City as his work visa expires. He finds an opportunity to work with Elizabeth, an erratic and marginalized artist in the art world. The film's deep message is about clinging to our dreams, no matter how unreachable they may seem to others, and not giving up at the first sign of trouble. It emphasizes the importance of standing up for one's basic rights in a world filled with exploiters, underlining that kindness alone cannot shield one from the law of the jungle, where only the strongest survive. Character development is a focal point of "Problemista," showing Alejandro's transformation from hesitant to proactive in pursuing his dreams. The relationships between characters are intricately designed, reflecting how directorial techniques can enhance the narrative. The blend of Alejandro’s vivid imagination with the real world injects a layer of irony and depth to the dialogues and situations. Julio Torres delivers a unique and imaginative perspective in "Problemista," with multidimensional characters that mirror everyday people we interact with, some of whom may seem benign but have a toxic impact on creative individuals. This film suggests a promising future for Torres if he continues to craft stories with such artistry and realism. #cinema #movies #drama #comedy #life #weekend #sunday #movienight

ACTORS DO ANYTHING TO ENTERTAIN US In the dazzling world of cinema, actors captivate us with their portrayals, seamlessly embodying characters that transport us to different realities. But behind the glamour lies a dedication often unseen: the sacrifices actors make to fully inhabit their roles. Today, we at Filmbooks want to celebrate these silent commitments. Physical Transformations: Actors may drastically change their physique for a role, enduring grueling workout regimes or adopting restrictive diets. From Christian Bale's emaciation for "The Machinist" to Chris Hemsworth's bulking up for "Thor," the physical toll can be immense. Emotional Investment: Delving into the psyche of complex characters can take an emotional toll. Actors navigate a range of emotions, reliving traumas or confronting darkness to deliver authentic performances. Time and Personal Lives: Actors dedicate countless hours to rehearsals, filming, and promotional activities. This often comes at the expense of personal time, relationships, and even hobbies. Public Scrutiny: Theatrical and film productions expose actors to constant public scrutiny. Their performances, appearances, and even personal lives are subject to public opinion and media attention. Do you know an actor who has gone above and beyond for their craft? Share their story in the comments! #actorslife #dedication #sacrifice #craft #filmmaking #entertainment #filmbooks P.S. Are you an aspiring actor? Share your biggest challenges and what keeps you motivated in the comments below!
