The Impact of the Upcoming Employment Rights Bill. How will the upcoming Employment Rights Bill affect you and your people? The Labour government is introducing an Employment Rights Bill that will provide "day one rights" to over seven million workers, ensuring vital protections from their very first day on the job. Here are the key changes to look out for: Unfair Dismissal Protections: The two-year waiting period for unfair dismissal claims will be eliminated. Parental Leave and Sick Pay: Employees will gain access to paid parental leave and sick pay right from day one. Flexible Working: Employers will be required to consider flexible working requests from all employees. As these changes unfold, it’s essential to understand how they will impact your organisation and the people within it. Ensure your hiring practices are ready for the upcoming changes. Barrister & Advocate | Lawyer Specialised in Cross-Border Investment Facilitation | Strategic Counsel for Licensing, Corporate & Regulatory Compliance |
As a Labour & Employment law practitioner, we encounter unique and emotional stories very often. Today, during a client conference, I experienced a situation that was particularly distressing, unlike most of the client meetings I typically attend. We lawyers tend to focus on the facts that matter to the case most, but some clients feel the need to share every detail of their experience, and I’m not at all good at cutting people off when they are really expressing their heart out! As I listened, the story became more and more painful. This client had worked for over a decade with a single employer, never receiving a promotion, yes not for a single time in 14 years time. Now, after serving the company for over a decade, the company is pressuring him to resign (yes, resignation, so that they need to pay less!) For obvious reasons, he refused to do so, and now the company has turned hostile towards him, making his life unbearable with accusations of underperformance, and negligence at work etc. The reason I’m sharing this is not just to talk about the client’s ordeal, but to highlight an important lesson for everyone navigating their career- please please- be very selective and choosy about your employer/boss/senior. If an employer can evaluate your performance on a monthly or annual basis, why shouldn’t you do the same for them? Ask yourself a few very basic questions- What have I learned in my last one year/month time? Am I growing? Is this role advancing my career? Etc! If you feel stagnant or undervalued, don’t ever hesitate to make a change. Never be afraid to change your boss when it’s clear they don’t deserve your talent. I always say, changing your employment or boss, when done for the right reasons, is one of the most important and impactful decisions you can make in your professional life. This is even more important for professionals like lawyers, whose careers often depend on the quality of mentorship and guidance from their seniors at work! #Happywork #Careeradvice #worklife #lawyerslife

One HUGE thing I've noticed in the last 2 years at Pavilion Recruitment Solutions is how career development & personal development intertwine 🌟 Development in any aspect is the cornerstone excellence. When we invest in skills like emotional intelligence, time management, and communication, we not only enhance our personal lives but also bring these strengths into the workplace 🌱 Conversely, career development can drive personal growth. Tackling new challenges at work, such as leading a project or mastering a new technology, pushes us out of comfort zones and builds confidence. 🔹 Growing your professional network can enrich your personal life with diverse perspectives 🔹 Setting and achieving career goals can translate into a disciplined approach to personal ambitions 🔹 Learning new skills at work can ignite passions that spill over into personal hobbies or side projects In the UK, a study by CIPD (2023) showed that 72% of employees who engaged in continuous learning felt happier both at work and home. How has your career influenced your personal growth and vice versa? 💭 #CareerGrowth #PersonalDevelopment #ProfessionalSuccess #InsuranceCareers #LloydsofLondon
