All right. Let's get it started. I hope everyone had an amazing holiday season, and a great start to 2024. If you're like me, you look forward to the new year as a new beginning. An opportunity to do something new. A chance to make it a better year than the one just ended. Let's start with the first nominations of 2024 for the Nice Guy/Gal Awards. Every Friday, I’ll share nominations for people who have been identified as nice guys (and gals). If you want to nominate someone, just shoot me a private message by 5:00 EDT on Thursday. There are only 3 requirements: 1) you have to be connected to the person you nominate 2) you can only nominate one person per week 3) you can’t nominate yourself 😀 If you want to provide a brief reason for your selection, that’s great, but it’s not a requirement. Let’s recognize people who make a difference simply by being nice. Have a great day, everyone. And a great year! https://lnkd.in/eANrt5jE #network #sportsbiz #people #niceguy #networking #sportsmarketing

Forbes Contributor Independent Whisky Consultant, Broker and Analyst Owner/Editor In Chief @ The Whiskey Wash Probate Specialist
So we finally have some regulation of the cask world! And it is from a REAL LIFE authority with teeth - the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). In short the ASA has issued an enforcement notice to whisky cask investment companies, demanding greater transparency in their advertising. This directive, effective from January 2, 2024, aims to ensure that consumers are not misled and are fully informed about the risks and details of such investments. The notice requires that advertisements must clearly disclose the risks involved in investing, including the potential for fluctuating values and the fact that returns are not guaranteed. It also mandates that ads must contain “material information” necessary for consumers to make informed decisions. This includes the unregulated status of whisky cask investments, the variability of investment values, and applicable fees and conditions. Where I think this gets very interesting is how this intersects with companies telling customers the actual nature of their ownership (i.e. securities rather than casks) as it could very easily be brought into this guidance. But I think there is more to come on this matter soon... https://lnkd.in/dNTRFraZ

"Consider what it could look like to develop an international approach without necessarily leaving your home country. How can artists and culture professionals better be supported to connect meaningfully with diaspora communities? How can cultural institutions learn from their peer organisations nationally and abroad that have successfully designed initiatives to identify and integrate newly arrived artists in exile?" Honoring Black History Month 🖤Inspired by JAY Z's powerful Grammy acceptance speech, I'm reminded of the resilience within our community. From unequal opportunities to systemic biases, underrepresented individuals face challenges across industries—getting overlooked for promotions and roles, not receiving accolades, even with stolen ideas that they then pass as their own. Jay's words echo the importance of showing up and staying encouraged, even when their actions and words try to tell you that you're not worthy. Keep showing up until they get it right! We love you. We just want you to get it right. It wasn't until witnessing his speech that I found the words I wanted to share this Black History Month. To my fellow trailblazers, keep pushing, keep striving – whether it's navigating unequal access, combatting stereotypes, or overcoming the hurdles of being overlooked. Your voice matters, your dreams are valid. Let Jay's success be a testament to the strength that lies within us. In every endeavor, from music to business, we navigate uncharted territories. So, to my community, stay up, stay resilient, and keep breaking barriers. Your journey is part of the rich tapestry of Black history, of American history, of world history, and your success is a beacon of hope for the generations to come. 🌟 (the opinions expressed within the content are solely the author’s and do not reflect the opinions and beliefs of any organization that I may be associated with) #BlackHistoryMonth #StayEncouraged #RepresentationMatters #Inspiration #InSolidarity https://lnkd.in/eQRE7eMD

I'm always thrilled to see my fellow authors recognized for their achievements, and have long been interested in how the lessons from the transformation of the American West in the pasr may be applied in the future by countries which today share similarities in terrain, (lack of) infrastructure, unique "cattle cultures", indigenous armed ttibes, and massive mineral wealth and agricultural potential! Putting CONTINENTAL RECKONING on my "must-read" list.
We are beyond thrilled to share that Elliott West's CONTINENTAL RECKONING is one of the winners of the Bancroft Prize from Columbia University, one of the most distinguished awards in the field of American History. West's book was described by the jury as “a searing narrative explaining how the republic became a transcontinental nation,” through a “vast racial, social and political reordering” that redefined citizenship and the relationship between government, industry and the people.
