Eye-catching billboard, right? Wrinkled fruit = aged skin, classic subliminal ad. As a consumer looking at this billboard, you're probably thinking 'mm...what's a fruit got to do with this' and then you glance again and it doesn't take long to piece together the analogy to our SKIN. That's good marketing and that's how you leave an impact. You now know this red-tube product reduces wrinkles (effective!) As a marketer, for some odd reason, what came to my mind was... 'Wow, what a clever way to work around an ad policy restriction.' Nowadays, seeing a wrinkled fruit vs a plump fruit in skincare ads is no longer the exception but quite the norm. But I wonder... is this ad clever marketing or a sneaky way to bypass ad restrictions (looking at you, META!). Context: If you've run ads on META for skincare brands, you'd know that a 'Before and After' ad addressing skin or weightloss will get rejected. As a marketer, you must find other clever ways to say, "Your life (or in this case, skin) will be different if you use this product." #divergentcontent #subliminaladvertising #branding #Mondaythoughts
