(Post 1 of 3) Yesterday we wrapped up a fantastic three days at Australian Parliament House where we've been meeting with MPs and Senators to build support for the #SaveCommunityLegalCentres End the funding crisis campaign. Great to know that there is so much support for the vital work community legal centres do amongst national leaders from across the political spectrum. We'll be back in the capital later this year to keep the pressure on the Federal Government to deliver the funding boost and funding security community legal centres - and the people and communities who rely on them - desperately need by December 2024. Crime-free nuisance ordinances (CFNOs) don’t keep communities safe. CFNOs are promoted as preventing crimes when these laws in fact cause harm to people who pose no risks. Under these municipal laws, landlords can: - evict victims of domestic violence and people with disabilities for contacting emergency services like the police or paramedics - deny housing to people who’ve encountered the criminal legal system, leaving many homeless That’s why the Shriver Center serves in a coalition dedicated to passing the Community Safety Through Stable Homes Act. We wrote about how the law would protect vulnerable communities from unfair discrimination and keep families in their homes. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gu3_7HFG

❌ Support the Trafficking Survivors Relief Act ❌ Human trafficking is a pervasive issue that affects millions globally, including right here in our communities. Survivors often face the additional burden of criminal records for actions they were forced to commit while being trafficked. This injustice hinders their ability to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society. The Trafficking Survivors Relief Act (TSRA) aims to address this by providing a pathway for survivors to vacate these criminal records, offering them a chance to heal and thrive without the shadow of their past holding them back. I stand with the Polaris (formerly Polaris Project) in advocating for the TSRA. This legislation is crucial for ensuring that survivors are not further victimized by the legal system and can access the opportunities they need to move forward. Join me in supporting this vital cause. Let’s raise our voices and urge our representatives to pass the TSRA. Together, we can combat modern day slavery and make a difference in the lives of trafficking survivors. #EndHumanTrafficking #SupportSurvivors #TSRA #PolarisProject #Advocacy #HumanRights #TogetherWeRise #EndItMovement #HumanTrafficking
