We are taking a small team into Western NC on the 21st. We are not going there to sell roofs. We are not going to throw tarps for a charge. We are going to clear roads, clear homes, pull out our neighbors, tarp what we can for no charge, and distribute supplies. This is not at a profit. We are not looking to create connections for future work. This isn’t a paid run. I can’t imagine a better team than Ben Spaugh & Dustin Raper to be running with. If you pray, pray for our team and those we come in contact with — and especially all those we won’t make contact with. If you don’t pray, hold our team and all of our mountain folk in your hearts. NC was not prepared for this, but we will respond, and we will rebuild. According to Feeding America and the USDA, 13 million children experienced hunger in 2022. PV Power Packs supplies children in my local school district who are food insecure with weekend bags. These weekend bags include two breakfasts, two lunches, two snacks, and two fruits. They also have a few opportunities throughout the summer to supply students with food. August is my birthday month! To celebrate this happy occasion, I am partnering with PV Power Packs. I donate to this initiative not only because it is the right thing to do, but they helped my family when we were in a tight spot. Shortly after we bought our house and moved to the area, my husband was laid off. We were in this between space: did not make enough to make ends meet, yet made too much to qualify for certain aid programs. PV Power Packs helped make sure my child was fed when I wasn't sure where the next meal was coming from. Luckily, we no longer need their services, and I love giving back. In honor of Women’s History Month, the Rotary Club of Redwood City is tackling a modern-day women’s issue—Menstrual Equity. Across the United States, millions of people suffer the consequences of not being able to afford period products. This includes lost income and loss of time spent in the classroom. Menstrual Hygiene is a human right, not a privilege. The Rotary donation drive will give all products to Redwood City Public Library’s Teen Center and Project READ for distribution to the community. Consider making a donation through the Amazon wishlist. A few facts to consider (State of the Period 2021): *More than 4 in 5 students in the U.S. have either missed class time or know someone who has missed class time because they did not have access to period products *Lower-income students and students of color, particularly Latinx students) are more impacted by lack of access than white and middle-income students *23% of Latinx students have had to choose between buying period products and food/clothing *Poor menstrual hygiene promotes negative health outcome, including urinary tract infections. Hello LinkedIn Family! For the last seven months I have been volunteering at the Johnson Boys and Girls Club, one of 25 Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. Of the three Boys & Girls Clubs of America I have spent time at over the last 10 years, this club has the best programming I have seen. From a STEM room donated by the Denver Nuggets, to woodworking, to a Social-Emotional Learning group, this club has an incredible amount to offer. However, what I have noticed during my time is how 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗯. The children at the Johnson club are predominately black and Latinx, with a bit of Middle Eastern and Asian as well. However, nearly every book I come across features white characters. I believe it is incredibly important for children to see they are represented in all aspects of life, including what they read. 𝗧𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯, 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗼𝗻. As I try to calm myself down from all my excitement from how tonight went at Teatime I just had to share it with others. So as I went into tonights Teatime I got curious on how Safety Positive Foundation might be doing on our fundraiser for #givingtuesday and to my very happy dance surprise was sitting 10% of our goal already!!! Can you say one happy Founder / CEO! Then to go into my favorite night of the week and hangout with my pirate crew and we have new people attending and a guest speaker!! Even better its a record breaking night in attendance! Note if you were talking to me in person right now I would be using my hands all over the place I am so excited on how tonight has went. I am both excited and terrified to have a goal of $2500 in one day. I have never had a goal like this before in all honesty. Ok I have helped teams accomplish this goal but not the one leading the ship on the crew. So here I am humbling and shameless asking for donations to reach this goal. The thing is though this goal is not about me. Well maybe it is.. maybe its about a younger me or that younger lady out there like me who I want to create this service for. So they can have access to the training and resources I didn’t have. So maybe they can learn how to advocate for themselves and not be mentally or emotionally abused. So they can learn how to be proactive about their personal safety instead of reactive. Maybe they can learn where accessible trainings are located / offered that they may be offered on-going training to reduce likely hood of assaults. This project we are creating is going to change lives. I can feel it in my heart and soul.
