🌾 The last few weeks have been a challenge for our farmers. 🌾 The weather has been very changeable, with unpredictable rainfall that has significantly shortened the time for #harvesting. 🌧 Despite these challenges, our farmers have been able to utilise the short harvest period this week to bring in the #crop on time. If the harvest had been further delayed, there could have been quality problems with the malting barley in terms of germination or protein content. This trend is common to all crops grown. It is a testament to the resilience and commitment of our #farmers, who continue to deliver high-quality products despite the adverse #weatherconditions. In addition, summer malting barley can help to avoid labour peaks due to its usually early clearance. A special aspect of our #maltingbarley is coastal barley (Küstengerste). This special barley thrives under the influence of the typical North German maritime climate in Schleswig-Holstein. It grows in the rough sea air, which is particularly rich in iodine and salt. In malted form, it plays an important role in the #brewingprocess and is partly responsible for the unique flavour of Flensburger beer. [..] Thirteen years ago, the town’s residents prevented corrupt officials and a local cartel from illegally cutting down native forests to make way for the crop. A group of locals took loggers hostage while others incinerated their trucks. Soon, townspeople had kicked out the police and local government, cancelled elections, and locked down the whole area. A revolutionary experiment was under way. Months later, Cherán reopened with an entirely new state apparatus in place. Political parties were banned, and a governing council had been elected; a reforestation campaign was undertaken to replenish the barren hills; a military force was chartered to protect the trees and the town’s water supply; some of the country’s most advanced water filtration and recycling programmes were created. And the avocado was outlawed. Citing the Mexican constitution, which guarantees Indigenous communities the right to autonomy, Cherán petitioned the state for independence. In 2014, the courts recognised the municipality, and it now receives millions of dollars a year in state funding. Today, it is an independent zone where the purples and yellows of the Purépecha flag, representing the Indigenous nation in the region, is as common as the Mexican standard. What started as a public safety initiative has become a radical oddity, a small arcadia governed by militant environmentalism in the heart of avocado country.[..]

In today´s #MusselMonday we get nerdy about blue mussel feeding 🤓 #Bluemussels are incredible at filtering water, and feed on small phytoplankton, algae and bacteria in the water. They can filter with up to 100% efficiency, and some say the mussels in the Baltic filter the entire volume of the #BalticSea in a year! 🐚 🍽 Blue mussel farming can be a good local #measure to increase #waterquality, by letting the mussels filter out particles and then removing them from the sea once the mussel has grown. In #BalticMUPPETS, we develop use cases for the small mussels from the Baltic. When I first started supporting lemon growers in the mid 1970's, we had over 30,000 acres of lemons in Ventura county. Today that number is closer to 15,000 acres.

How strong is the correlation of Mental Market Share and Sales Market Share ⁉️ 🏆 I feel a lot of us in Marketing and MRX (myself included) have been dreaming of a „holy grail“ metric that allows us to measure the impact of what we‘re doing (building brands) - and how that‘s contributing to business success ($$$). 🤔 In her book „Better Brand Health“ Jenni Romaniuk introduces Mental Market Share (MMS) and proposes a correlation between .75 and .95 for MMS and Sales - which, honestly speaking, felt „too good to be true“ at first… 💡But at quantilope we were able to prove the high correlation of MMS and Sales across a range of our BBHT customers (including Florida's Natural Growers): the average r across a range of categories is .81 ! ‼️ We all know that correlation ≠ causation, so I wouldn’t call MMS the „holy grail“ metric quite yet 😉 However, I love the fact that we can make specific and actionable recommendations on how to increase MMS (by building connections with specific CEPs)! From my perspective, this brings us a lot closer to proving the value Marketing and MRX provide for businesses - compared to a couple of more traditional „black box“ metrics I‘ve seen and worked with. 👀 Would love to hear what you think about Mental Market Share!
