What should we do to hire quality QA Engineer for our team? 🚫 Don’t narrow down your search to an #automation #QA or a Functional QA. 🚫 Avoid exclusively looking for a Load and Performance tester. 🎯 Instead, seek an experienced QA who possesses: • Honesty • Hardworking ethic • Quick learning ability • Problem-solving skills 🔗 Don’t limit a QA to a specific framework. A proficient QA will adapt seamlessly to your stack. 👨💼 As a QA person with good amount of experience in evaluating people and building teams for various tools and technologies I recognize the significance of these qualities in a QA role. #QualityAssurance

Don't be another Crowdstrike! How to improve your hiring processes to bring in the right QA People and avoid major business disruptions. Every few months there's another major disruption that can ultimately be traced to faulty software. High-profile IT failures often result from overlooked QA issues. Many companies face significant costs due to mismatches between QA job descriptions and actual skills required. · Misaligned Job Descriptions: Many QA roles are defined by non-QA professionals, leading to unrealistic skill requirements. · Focus on Technical Skills: Overemphasis on technical skills rather than core QA competencies results in poor hires. · Emphasizing obscure software over QA skills: Companies prioritize specific software knowledge, shrinking the pool of competent QA candidates. Quality QA professionals have continuously learned new software in their careers, but these candidates are omitted from a rigid process. · Rigid adherence to job descriptions without understanding prioritization: Treating all elements of a job description the same instead of focusing on key competencies, e.g. eliminating someone with basic SQL skills but elite QA skills. · Impact on Projects: Inadequate QA expertise leads to increased defects, project delays, and resource wastage. To address these issues, refine job descriptions to prioritize practical QA skills and align them with the true needs of the role. This is not a new issue but has been going on for many years, however things have been getting worse thanks to a monomaniacal focus on technical/automation skills above key QA competencies. Below is an article I previously wrote whose diagnosis and solutions are just as relevant today as they were when I wrote it. Read more to learn how to effectively bridge the gap in QA hiring. Of course, bad criteria in hiring people isn't solely the province of QA as the notorious drafting of Tom Brady in the 6th round of the NFL showed. However, the difference is in the NFL they continually refine their processes for continuous improvement whereas IT and QA are stuck in a time warp. Have you run into instances of QA roles you were highly qualified for but didn’t get due to absurd requirements? What are the most job description requirements you’ve seen for a QA professional? (23 bullet points is my record) #QualityAssurance #QA #ITHiring #BestPractices

Today's Crowdstrike issue that has affected an untold number of users worldwide was partly caused by deployment processes being ignored/skipped. Test rings were circumvented, and the bug hit the entire planet. Following your appropriate QA processes protects your company from embarrassing itself and winding up on the news. My previous role was 75% about making sure these processes were properly followed BEFORE any code was deployed to our customers. This shouldn't have happened, but I can't help but notice that Crowdstrike is not (currently) hiring any Manual QA Testers, Quality Analysts, or Software Test Engineers in the United States. (And most of their overseas QA positions are for SDET--which is automation.) When you cut test positions, you open yourself up to these kinds of nightmares.

The Market Demand for QA Engineers Who Can Do Both: SQA + Security Here’s an emerging trend that’s worth paying attention to: companies are increasingly looking for QA engineers who can handle both software quality assurance and security testing. As digital systems become more complex, having someone who understands both functionality and security is a huge advantage. Why the shift? 1️⃣ Security issues are often discovered during functional testing. 2️⃣ Combining SQA and security expertise reduces the need for separate roles. 3️⃣ QA professionals with security knowledge are better equipped to prevent vulnerabilities during the testing process. If you’re looking to stay competitive in the job market, developing a hybrid skill set in both QA and security testing can give you an edge. It’s a trend that’s only going to grow. #SQA #SecurityTesting #HybridSkills #MarketTrends #CareerDevelopment
