The Citadel Alumni Association again awarded Legacy Scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each, this year to 32 cadet children of CAA members. These awards are based on academic achievement and are managed by The Citadel’s Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Applicants and current cadets are encouraged to contact that office directly. We spoke with Cadet Ryan Liester, ’25, who embodies the mission of this scholarship program. He is the son of Jason Liester, ’98, of Swansee, S.C.

LTC P. Steven Hodges, USA, Ret., ’63, donated his sword to the CAA’s Legacy Sword program. He is shown here presenting his sword to Shamus Gillen, ’96, who handles the program here in the Alumni Office. Swords donated to the program by alumni are used for a variety of purposes, including being loaned to current sword-bearing cadets, use in Junior Sword Arch and inclusion in historical displays. The Citadel Alumni Association’s Sword Legacy Program creates a link between members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and members of the Long Grey Line. The program was established in response to many alumni reaching out to find a use for their old swords.
