Another plot twist in the story of equal pay in the UK.   ⚖ An Employment Tribunal decides that the retailer Next could not rely on market forces to justify differences in basic pay for workers on the shop floor and in its warehouses.    David Rintoul and Rachel Hunter summarise the case and discuss the implications of this decision.   With similar cases relating to the UK’s largest supermarkets and other retailers expected to be heard in the coming months, this decision increases the risks facing employers across all sectors who may historically have relied on “paying the going rate” to justify pay differentials within their workforce. The challenge will be to identify an underlying aim which can be traced back to something other than merely maintaining profitability.   To read more, visit the link in the comments 👇   #EqualPay #EmploymentLaw

The UK’s corporation #tax laws limit companies' ability to deduct interest when calculating taxable profits. One of these restrictions is the unallowable purpose rule in section 441 of the Corporation Tax Act 2009.   Join Dominic Robertson, Charles Osborne and Tanja Velling as they discuss three recent Court of Appeal decisions which clarify how this rule applies and what it means for #taxpayers, particularly in M&A transactions.   🎧 Listen to the podcast using the link in comments or search for 'Tax News Slaughter and May' on your preferred podcast app. 🔔 You can also subscribe to the show to be notified of future episodes.

Curious about the insights our Lead in to Law students gained on their summer work placement? From 7-9 August, our students immersed themselves in a summer work insight programme where they spent time networking with our staff, developing key professional skills, and tackling a real-world work scenario. 💡 Imagine pitching your ideas to the ITV legal team! That’s exactly what our students did. Their hard work and creativity were put to the test, and they rose to the occasion. A huge thank you to our students for their enthusiasm, the ITV legal team for their support, and our employee volunteers for making it all happen. Want to learn more?
