🎂It’s 30 years since our first Eye Care Liaison Officer (ECLO) started providing vital emotional and practical support for people diagnosed with an eye condition. Last week, we celebrated the anniversary by going back to where it all began - The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust eye clinic. We now have 130 RNIB ECLOs – with another 60 employed by other sight loss organisations. And the end of 2024 will bring a significant milestone - there will be an ECLO in every major UK hospital eye clinic! Read about the history of our ECLO service: https://lnkd.in/ed-GYk96 [Image descriptions: Image 1: First Rotherham ECLO Kevin Hewish with Stevie Johnson, Clinical Lead of RNIB’s Eye Care Services, sitting in the ECLO room at Rotherham Community Health Centre. • Today, we also celebrated another event, as we held our second annual Cultural Celebration Day! Organised by our BAME Staff Network, the Cultural Celebration Day is a chance for colleagues from BAME backgrounds to celebrate their diverse heritage. The day was marked by a short event in the main entrance of Rotherham Hospital, where colleagues, patients and visitors were encouraged to gather to see a performance by some of our internationally educated nurses. Later, the event rolled out to each of the wards around the hospital, where a special pack including decorations and games was given out so that those who couldn't make it to the main entrance could be included in the celebration. Colleagues were encouraged to wear traditional dress to mark the occasion. In the NHS nationally, around 19% of colleagues are from an international background. We would like to say a special thank you to our BAME and international colleagues working for our Trust today. We appreciate you and the care you give for our patients.

  • On Wednesday, we paid tribute to our domestics on Thank Your Cleaner Day. Thank Your Cleaner Day is a special day dedicated to all people who help keep workplaces and public buildings clean, safe and hygienic. For colleagues who aren’t a domestic, it’s a chance for us to recognise and say how much we appreciate their work. In Rooftop Restaurant, a thank you celebration was held for the domestics, where they received a special thank you certificate, and other colleagues were encouraged to say thank you to a colleague who cleans by leaving them a note, giving them a little gift or just saying thank you to them.

  • Today marks the seventh annual Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Day and we've joined in with the celebrations! We are proud to have 10 of the AHP professions represented by professionally registered colleagues who work in our Trust: dietitians, occupational therapists, operating department practitioners, orthoptists, paramedics, physiotherapists, podiatrists, orthotists, radiographers and speech and language therapists. We also have a significant number of therapy support workers, who help enable us to deliver these services. Thank you to you all for all that you do each and every day for our patients! Check out some of the photos of our AHP Day event, held in the main entrance of Rotherham Hospital. Nationally, the AHP workforce is made up of 14 different professional groups: art therapists, dietitians, drama therapists, music therapists, occupational therapists, operating department practitioners, orthoptists, osteopaths, paramedics, physiotherapists, podiatrists, prosthetists and orthotists, radiographers and speech and language therapists. #AHPsDay #AHPCommunity
