The National Renewable Energy Laboratory annual rankings just came out, and Ava ranked #3 nationally compared to other CCAs in regards to green power sales (MWh) and # of customers receiving green power! We rank 6th nationally in green power sales among thousands of electricity utilities and CCAs in the entire U.S.! Much of the demand for Ava's green power is driven by our eight member cities that have chosen Renewable 100 as the default service for accounts in their jurisdiction. In those cities, customers are automatically placed on 100% solar and wind service. Ava customers not in those eight cities are automatically placed on our Bright Choice Service, which provides a 5% discount to PG&E rates, and contains over 50% "eligible renewable" content (not including large hydropower or nuclear), and is on-track to be 100% carbon-free by 2030. Our grid wasn’t built for the #CleanEnergy boom we’re experiencing today, but Grid Enhancing Technologies (GETs) like Dynamic Line Ratings (DLRs) are here to help, as noted in this insightful article from Ava Community Energy CEO Howard Chang. DLR sensors report a transmission line's true transmission capacity based on real-time conditions like wind or temperature. This almost always allows increased power flow without building new lines, which takes more time and money. For example, a New York pilot project with National Grid and LineVision expects to reduce wind farm curtailments by over 350 MW and boost transfer capacity by 190 MW on average. In Pennsylvania, an Ampacimon DLR system deployed by PPL Electric Utilities saves over $23M annually at a cost of just $250K—avoiding a $50M rebuild. https://lnkd.in/gUSRhZcb #RenewableEnergy #GridEnhancingTechnologies #GETs #GETTheGridMoving

Our CEO Howard Chang sat down with San Francisco Business Times ' William Hicks to discuss how Ava is leading the East Bay’s green energy transition while saving our customers an estimated $23M a year. “We’ve had significant generation capacity increases over the last several years. We’ve been heavily procuring and have over a gigawatt of new renewable energy resources that includes clean storage that we’re bringing online, and we’re seeing that throughout the state of California.” More about Ava’s latest projects, expansion plans and Howard’s predictions for the future of energy: https://lnkd.in/gSgUQKXT
