About us
Our Saviour’s Community Services (OSCS) provides dignified shelter and housing for single adults and English language education to adult immigrants in the Phillips Community of South Minneapolis. OSCS takes its name from Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, which founded our programs in the early 1980s. In 2004, we became a legally and financially independent nonprofit and are not a religious organization.

“We have had dreams of adding mental health services in our shelter for years and now the dream is a reality.” In early 2024, the Our Saviour’s Housing Emergency Shelter launched a 12-month pilot mental health initiative that provides guests at our shelter with access to on-site mental health services. This innovative new service offering is provided in partnership with People Incorporated Mental Health Services, Minnesota’s largest non-profit mental health provider, and is funded through a grant from the Medica Foundation. Read more about why we’re piloting mental health services now, and how we expect will impact long-term well-being for guests at our shelter: https://lnkd.in/gpbsY8MG

Exciting news! Thanks to a Behavioral Health grant from the Medica Foundation, we are partnering this year with People Incorporated Mental Health Services to provide direct mental health services for guests at our Emergency Shelter, as well as supporting our shelter staff in working with guests with mental health conditions and substance use disorders. Learn more about the partnership on People Incorporated's website: https://lnkd.in/gjzpXBwf.
We are excited to announce our newest community partnership with Our Saviour's Community Services (OSCS) that embeds a Mental Health Therapist into their Emergency Shelter, thanks to the generous support of the Medica Foundation. Since mid-January, the Therapist has been working onsite at the shelter to work with guests to develop therapeutic relationships and offer one-to-one therapy, crisis counseling, care coordination, and other direct services. Be a part of guiding OSCS! We are currently accepting applications for board members for terms starting in June 2024. Our organization is on an exciting trajectory with big things to come in the next few years, and we are looking forward to welcoming board members who will help lead us during this exciting period for our organization. In 2024, we are particularly looking to add board members with experience in finance and/or accounting. Looking to engage in a different way? We also have open opportunities for community members to serve on one of our three board committees. This opportunity will allow community members to help make important decisions at OSCS, while maintaining a lower time commitment. Learn more about both opportunities at https://lnkd.in/gdXC3PMp.

One of the highlights my career is working for an organization that is genuinely passionate about serving our communities. Please consider volunteering as an English Teacher for our English Language Center at Our Saviour's Community Services in Minneapolis. Change one life at a time.
Student attendance at the English Learning Center is booming faster than our current volunteer base can support. The English Learning Center has a critical, time-sensitive need to orient more volunteer teachers to our program -- especially for morning classes. Can you help by sharing this post or signing up to become a volunteer teacher, yourself? Online and in-person volunteer opportunities are available! Take the first step by filling out a brief online volunteer application today: https://lnkd.in/gPhkzaHe #volunteer #volunteering #teach #Minneapolis #AdultEd #English

Early this morning, it all came together. We surpassed our $50,000 Give to the Max goal! Whether you participated in this achievement as an early giver, a late-night supporter, an advocate, a matching donor, or somewhere in between -- thank you for it all. If you didn't have an opportunity to give yet, we would still graciously welcome your support today! Let's keep building this wave of community care and generosity for OSCS: https://lnkd.in/gn_uDHDn

If you haven't had a chance to support Our Saviour's Community Services yet this Give to the Max Day, there are still a few more hours! On paper, we're just over $10,000 away from our big goal. Thanks to our community of matching donors at the ready, however, we're really just over $5,000 away from reaching $50,000 together! Remember: Every dollar you give to OSCS tonight will drive us two dollars closer to our big $50,000 goal. Thank you for supporting the English Learning Center, Our Saviour's Housing, and Our Saviour's Community Services! Happy Give to the Max Day from Our Saviour's Community Services, the English Learning Center, and Our Saviour's Housing! A community pool of matching donors is generously matching the first $25,000 we raise this Give to the Max season. Today is Give to the Max Day, and this is our moment! To make the most of every last matching dollar today, we'll need to raise $8,000 more this year than last. We have a big opportunity, and we simply can't close that gap without your support. As of 10AM, about $15,000 of our $25,000 matching funds are remaining, ready to double your gift! "While inflation is falling and incomes (in aggregate) are rising, philanthropy in general and Give to the Max Day in particular still face headwinds. But perhaps more than nearly anywhere else in the country, Minnesotans seem to consistently rise to the challenge to try to change their state for the better." Thank you in advance, Minnesota, for giving generously this Give to the Max Day! https://lnkd.in/gsvqxAhb #gtmd23 GiveMN
