OPWDD helps people with developmental disabilities live, work, and take part in their communities.
About us
The New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) is responsible for coordinating services for New Yorkers with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, Prader-Willi syndrome, and other neurological impairments. As New York State's second-largest state agency, we employ a workforce of more than 20,000 professionals. We have positions available in every county in the state at our regional and state office locations as well as within the community. We continuously recruit for positions in direct support and frequently recruit for nurses, doctors, dentists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other clinical positions including social workers, dieticians, and occupational therapists. There are also many opportunities for people who seek administrative and clerical positions and those with backgrounds in health information management and maintenance and facility operations. People often come to OPWDD for a job but they stay for a career. Permanent, full-time New York State employees are eligible for a variety of attractive benefits including vacation, holiday, sick and personal leave; New York State Health Care Coverage; the New York State Retirement Plan; various payroll deduction savings programs including the Deferred Compensation Program, Flex Spending Accounts and Life and Disability Insurance. OPWDD also offers a Tuition Assistance Program and an Employee Assistance Program. If you're looking to make a difference and want to build a career, join the OPWDD team.

Craig brings fun and safety to his workplace. As a Play to Learn Facilitator at the Explore & More - The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Children's Museum in Buffalo, he spends his shifts introducing visitors to interactive exhibits all while making sure those exhibits are reset and clean for the next person. Most of all - he makes visitors feel welcome! Craig has been employed at the museum since 2020 and has been a talented member of the workforce for more than a decade. Watch for more stories this month as we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month throughout October. #NDEAM Learn more about #EmployAbility and how it can help your business or organization: bit.ly/TimeToEmployAbility

Every vote counts including in the "Great Sandwich Debate." Thank you to Self-Advocacy Association of New York State (SANYS) and The Arc Erie County New York for using the mock debate to familiarize people with the voting process and get them thinking about the issues that matter to them. We encourage all those who are eligible to make a plan to vote. For those who want to vote but are not registered, the deadline to register to vote in this year's November 5th election is October 26. Visit our Know Your Rights page here for more voting information: https://lnkd.in/g2pBVCs

Danny always wanted to work at the Shop N Save grocery across the street from his home in the small western New York town of Bolivar. He was motivated to be employed, and though his work path took him through a couple of different positions he thoroughly enjoyed, he arrived exactly where he wanted to be this year. Read more about Danny’s experience and watch for more stories this month as we celebrate National Disability Employment Rights Awareness Month #NDEAM https://lnkd.in/ekMRi2PM
