Last week, NLEN staff spent the day learning about North Lawndale, and NLEN's past and present. Staff toured the Dr. King Legacy Apartments and learned about Dr. King's 1966 Housing Justice campaign, and the work of local organizers who mobilized against contract housing sales and redlining, listened from NLEN's first Board chair Debra Wesley share insights about NLEN's origins, and stopped by NLEN's former home on Flournoy Street.
