Five years ago, Microsoft created the Office of Responsible AI, a major step in our efforts to advance AI responsibly. It's been an incredible privilege to lead this team over the past five years and to oversee the tremendous growth we've experienced. We've built a governance system across the company that harnesses the very best of research, policy, and engineering. And our work has shown that incorporating guardrails for AI systems doesn't just make for a responsible product, it makes for a better product overall.      In the Office of Responsible AI, we're tasked with looking at the big picture: how might this AI system be used, for good or for ill, months or years from now? But we're also in the weeds of AI systems Microsoft develops and deploys, ensuring humans are kept in the loop and risks are identified and mitigated. By incorporating responsible AI from the earliest stages of a product, we've helped Microsoft ship thousands of AI systems safely.      This work is often challenging, and there are many unknowns ahead, but there's no team I would rather be on this journey with. I'm proud to be leading this work because I'm optimistic that AI, if governed effectively, can enhance human potential and solve some of society's greatest problems. This is undoubtedly a tall order, but I believe we're up for the challenge. aka.ms/5yearsOfORA

Last week, our team received the Brandon Hall Group Gold award for excellence in the category of Best Learning Program that Supports and Promotes Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. This award recognizes the groundbreaking work behind our efforts developing and introducing the D&I Simulations experience as our newest employee learning series. This journey started as a vision—a dream of what a modern, impactful learning solution could look like. Today, I’m incredibly honored and proud to see that vision brought to life, thanks to an amazing partnership with global e-learning design agency, ETU, and the unwavering dedication of Danielle Journo and Juliana C. from my team. Together, we’ve made this dream a reality.  D&I Simulations offer our employees a dedicated virtual space to actively practice and refine the skills they've gained from our broader D&I portfolio. Through immersive, real-world workplace scenarios, learners can apply their allyship skills in a safe, low-risk environment. These simulations offer multiple opportunities for practice, coupled with real-time feedback, to reinforce learning and foster lasting behavior change. This innovative approach marks a significant advancement in Microsoft’s D&I capability-building efforts, offering a dynamic and interactive platform that accelerates meaningful growth and development.   This award is a powerful testament to the impact that D&I Simulations will continue to have in shaping the future of our workplace, empowering Microsoft employees to drive meaningful change from within.

At current rates of deforestation, we stand to lose nearly half of the Amazon rainforest by 2050, devastating the diverse species that call it home.
