  • The Good Samaritan Foundation's Excellence in Nursing Awards recognize and celebrate nurses in Greater Houston who excel in their field. We are excited to spotlight some Memorial Hermann nurses who received silver and gold awards this year. Born and raised in India, Seena received her nursing education back home before moving to the United States in 2006. After coming to the US, it was Seena's passion to work in cardiovascular surgery and she joined the Heart Failure ICU at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in 2013. Since then, the unit has grown tremendously and Seena has seen positive outcomes for numerous patients. After completing her master's in education, Seena transitioned into an educator role on the heart failure unit to help new ICU nurses develop skills to provide exceptional care to patients. Seena is always available to her nurses just as her mentor had been for her. Nominated by her peers, Seena is an Excellence in Nursing silver award recipient. "This award is a testament of hard work and dedication not just for myself but for all of colleagues and mentors who have supported me along the way," she says. When thinking of some of the proudest moments in her career, Seena reflects on all the nurses she mentored. "Seeing new nurses transition from their training to becoming a skillful and confident ICU nurse fills me with immense pride and satisfaction. I want to continue supporting and guiding the next generation of nurses." #Nursing #EmployeeHightlight #Houston

  • As we celebrate our community during Hispanic Heritage Month, our employees are sharing what their culture and traditions mean to them. Linda says her Catholic faith is closely connected to her culture, which has positively influenced her both personally and professionally. “My identity has helped me to be hardworking, persevere when times are challenging and to achieve any goal that I have set for myself,” she says. “It also influences how I treat others because respecting, honoring and caring for our elders and others is a tradition of my culture.” In her role as a nurse and clinical manager at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital and through her membership in organizations like the Hispanic/Latin American Organizational Leadership and Advancement Employee Resource Group and the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, she puts those values into practice to enhance the care experience. “I treat each patient as they are my family member and this is what my team does on a daily basis,” she says. “I also utilize my Spanish to communicate with them while rounding to personalize our connection and help them understand their diagnosis and plan of care.” #HispanicHeritageMonth
