Exciting news from our partners at MISTA! 🌱 The theme for the 2024 MISTA Growth Hack is Biomass Fermentation. “Fermentation biomass is an approach that grows microbial cells (think microalgae, fungi, yeast or bacteria) that are packed with healthy nutrients, including proteins, fibers, vitamins and minerals.” According to Céline Schiff-Deb, Chief Science Officer for MISTA. This collaborative event will unite experts from around the globe for a two-day event on November 19 and 20, 2024 - where they will discuss topics to highlight opportunities to accelerate the adoption of food products derived from biomass fermentation. Fourteen pioneering startups have been selected for this year's Growth Hack, spotlighting technologies that leverage a broad range of organisms, approaches, and carbon feed stocks. As a member of Mista, we're proud to partner as a technical team, along with seven others, working alongside these startups to drive innovation and collaboration within the food industry. 👉See all the participants and read the full press release here: https://hubs.li/Q02PQ1q00. #FoodTech #GrowthHack #FoodandBeverage #Innovation #Startups

"If you can't produce it at the end of the day - you can't get all the ingredients or the packaging, or it costs $10 million for capital, then what might be a neat idea is destined for failure." Ed Hinson one of our strategy experts, cautions against rushing innovation without analyzing its technical feasibility in this month's article 🔗https://hubs.li/Q02NNW8v0 While the creative process can produce exciting ideas, it’s vital to keep practical considerations like ingredient availability, packaging feasibility, and production costs top of mind. Logistical challenges, such as coman MSA negotiations and ingredient supplier MOQs, also underscore the importance of thorough planning. Conducting a technical feasibility analysis may feel like you're slowing down, but will usually launch a product quicker since you avoid hitting logistical walls and fighting availability fires. 💬 What's slowing down your timeline? Comment below with a few details or ask to set up an intro call - we want keep your project momentum going! #FoodandBeverage #CPGIndustry #Innovation #JPGTalent

Check out these great insights about the state of the investor market from Kevin W. 👇 👇 👇
As the summer comes to an end (heartbreaking), sharing some perspectives from many of the "state of the investor market" conversations I've had with various consumer investors regarding 2024 so far: -PE deal volume/share is UP since last year and for the first time since ~2019, however overall deal volume remains relatively flat YoY. -Size of deals is up across the board since last year. -Valuations are still WAY down (relative to 2021 - this is not worth benchmarking against any longer). -Consumer sentiment is improving. -Still a large demand for "value" goods relative to past years - spend on discretionary/premium items is still a bit muted. -Consumer Services businesses are drawing a ton of interest. -Roll-up strategies and platform plays seem to be more common. -Specific to what we are seeing at JPG Resources - Food & Beverage Innovation M&A Diligence, the co-manufacturer investment market is on fire. -There is a sense that investors have gotten "lucky" over the last ~5+ years with returns driven by multiple expansion rather than EBITDA growth (which comes from value creation). Most CPG companies regularly missed EBITDA targets. Value creation in new deals is more critical than ever, as we are likely not going to see multiple expansion like we have in the past (in CPG) anytime soon. If you want to chat in more depth and discuss specific examples / numbers, let me know - I am around!
