There's a simple business concept you should know and understand The price for not knowing it is stress, frustration and eventually failure You'll have far fewer headaches once you know Price's Law This simple law states the square root of the number of producers you have generate 50% of the produce you receive So in a company if there are 100 employees then 10 of them produce 50% of the work and the other 90 produce the other 50% Sounds kind of crappy but its the reality of scaling As you scale the incompetency of your staff grows exponentially Now you may say that stinks so why would anyone want to scale❓ Well its because Price's Law applies everywhere An example would be there are 30 million companies in the US and the GDP here is $29T The square root of 30M is 5,744 which means 5,744 produce $14.5T of the work in the country for an average of $2.5B per company The other 29.99M companies produce the other $14.5T for an average of $483K per company Scaling to size starts to look like a good deal once you look at earnings in their totality It may be a pain but scaling big makes a huge difference Put Price's Law to work for your business today ———————————————————————— 💥 Dr Dave here. 💥 Helping you navigate this journey called business success. Hey network, I need your help! How would you approach this? ... If you know me, you know I've supported hundreds of people and causes – mostly behind the scenes – for the last 2 decades. I'm starting a social impact initiative – centred around social mobility and economic empowerment. Keen to give people a leg up. We will give a portion of revenue from New's membership directly to recipients. 100% of the funds would go to people starting or running business, or apprentices/interns for example (or alternatively, to a charity of people's choice). While we have ideas on how to do this, I'm keen for the initiative itself to be social and driven by you. Here are a few key questions we're exploring: 1️⃣ How should we choose people? Nominations by you? Applications? Chosen by us? Via partners/ community leaders? By our members? 2️⃣ How can we support social mobility and economic empowerment? Hire interns and provide references? Pay for services from for-good start-ups? Help new entrepreneurs? Subsidise key services? 3️⃣ Should we give small amounts regularly or wait to give larger sums? What’s the most impactful way to distribute funds? Small, frequent contributions or larger, less frequent ones? I have been neglecting my health/fitness I don't exercise much and it's not good ... I get quite caught up in start-up world I don't eat well enough (though I am a mindful eater – is that a thing?) This is what happens: Not my usual chilled/playful self (yes, despite a legal nerd) Not as on the ball as usual Annoy family I'm on edge more than I should be Every week I speak to at least one person who is crying due to legal or business issues they ask us to solve. Some of the work we do is high risk Legal stuff takes immense concentration and energy The pressure of business can be intense sometimes Having an A-team team helps but they need me to be on top form too We only live once Might as well be happier, healthier and more upbeat Are you also thinking about doing something to improve things?
