Happy Tuesday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message, brought to you by our parent company, MYR Group. Staying out of the line of fire is critical for preventing accidents. If you’re in the line of fire, you’re putting yourself at risk from objects that may move or energy that may be released. To avoid the line of fire, you need to be aware of the line of fire. Always stay situationally aware, and before beginning a task, review the position of yourself, your coworkers, and equipment or objects in the area. An effective way to assess for line of fire hazards is to use the Energy Wheel and go through potential energy sources near you. Avoid the line of fire by physically moving your body or body parts or by using a control to prevent the release of energy. Happy Tuesday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message, brought to you by our parent company, MYR Group. Fatigue is a widespread issue, especially when it comes to jobsite safety, and it goes beyond just feeling tired. When you’re fatigued, you experience reduced motivation, and your body and mind must work harder to focus and complete tasks. You can also experience symptoms such as slowed reaction time, difficulty communicating, and impaired selective attention. To prevent this, prioritize getting enough sleep at night. For most people this means 7-8 hours. Eating healthy meals, staying hydrated, and stretching regularly can also help you fight fatigue and be at your best when on the job. Happy Tuesday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message, brought to you by our parent company, MYR Group. We often talk about taking your time and not acting quickly when you’re planning, assessing, or completing a task. However, there is a time to act quickly on a construction site- when as incident occurs. This doesn’t mean you should rush to take action. It’s important to act quickly to tend to an injury, and you need to be prepared to do so correctly. Otherwise, chaotic rushing can create more problems. Staying cool, calm, and collected while working diligently to address an issue is the recipe for a successful response to an incident.
