Last night, dockworkers reached an agreement to suspend their strike, increase wages 62% wage over six years, and to extend the existing contract until Jan. 15, 2025. HOWEVER, they did not come to a final agreement on automation. The International Longshoremen’s Association’s (ILA) have stated that they will not accept a deal in which shipping companies use technology to replace workers. From autoworkers to screenwriters, this fight against automation has been a major priority for unions for decades.
