The Food Bank of Alaska is near and dear to our employees’ hearts. A group from our Anchorage office volunteered at a mobile food pantry, providing fresh and non-perishable food for those in the community experiencing food insecurity. Volunteers sorted and compiled boxes of food on site that were then given to individuals and families in need. In support of Hunger Action Month, our Anchorage office also contributed a total of $10,500 dollars to the Food Bank of Alaska to help stock empty shelves and support their mission to feed our neighbors. Half of the donation was raised by Anchorage staff, with the remaining amount matched by Coffman. We appreciate the amazing work the Food Bank performs every day to feed our community members.

Our Honolulu team donated used computer equipment to the School for Examining Essential Questions of Sustainability (SEEQS), a public charter school serving grades 6-8. SEEQS Technology Coordinator, Sean Ormsby, reached out to parents for donations of used computer parts to launch an after-school computer club, where students can gain hands-on experience taking apart and rebuilding PCs. Coffman team members, Chris Horgan, PE, whose son attends SEEQS, and IT Specialist Matt Saylor, collaborated to donate 12 complete desktop computers that were marked for disposal. This donation reduces our office’s e-waste and supports SEEQS in offering engaging STEM activities for students. Good luck, Mr. Sean, and SEEQS students!

Coffman has a team of fire protection engineers at the 2024 International Code Council (ICC) Committee Action Hearing #2 in Long Beach, CA, from October 23 – 31, helping develop the 2027 I-Codes! Andrew Taggart, PE, and David Gramlich, PE, are serving on the International Fire Code Development Committee, where they are hearing testimony and voting on revisions to proposals to the International Fire Code (IFC) and International Wildland Urban Interface Code (IWUIC). Jeffrey Grove, PE, FSFPE, Mike Morlock, PE, and Aidan Murray are also in attendance. Jeff is representing the Southern Nevada Chapter of the ICC as the Code Development Chair and Chair of the ICC Building Code Action Committee. During the first Code Action Hearing, eight of Coffman’s nine proposals were approved as submitted to the IFC/IWUIC, IBC Fire Safety, and IBC Egress Committees. This is an important week for code changes and is the last opportunity to discuss code change proposals before the public comment hearings in April 2026.
