The annual Syl Syl Christmas Toy Drive is this Sunday, November 10 from 2 - 4 PM at the Clock in Greer! (603 W Poinsett St.) The toys donated will go straight into the Cops for Tots and Country Santa programs. They’ll be looking for new and unwrapped toys for kids aged 1-12. The toy drive commemorates Sylvia Holtzclaw who was involved in the tragic Blue Ridge Savings Bank case. Please consider donating to help underprivileged children and give back to the community this holiday season!

About us
The City of Greer, South Carolina One of South Carolina’s fastest-growing cities, Greer is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains — in the heart of the state’s bustling Upstate region with easy access to interstate highways, an international airport and rail service to the Port of Charleston. Spanning more than 22 square miles, Greer’s city limits to the north offer outdoor recreation at Lake Robinson and Lake Cunningham, while the city’s southern boundary includes a major transportation corridor with Interstate 85 and the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, as well as BMW's only United States manufacturing facility. Two major healthcare systems, each with a state-of-the-art cancer center, have campuses in the city. The City of Greer took on a new look in 2008 as new municipal facilities opened to serve the public. A two-story Police and Court Complex anchors the west boundary of Greer Station, while a three-story Greer City Hall and 12-acre City Park are just two blocks to the east. City Hall includes an entire floor dedicated to public space, with a 4,500-square-foot events hall available for conventions, receptions, and galas. Just steps from the events hall, City Park includes a large fountain timed to music, an amphitheater for public concerts and ceremonies, a children's play area, walking trails, a picnic shelter, a pond, and ample green space for family fun. In addition to the BMW manufacturing plant, Greer is the longtime home of the North American Headquarters for Michelin North America and Mitsubishi Polyester Inc. South Carolina Ports opened its Inland Port at Greer in 2013. In 1990, Greer’s population was just over 10,000. That number topped 25,000 in 2010 and may surpass 100,000 residents in 2030 according to U.S. Census Bureau forecasts. The Greer Community is following its community master plan that contains strategies to handle the population and commercial growth expected over the next 15 years.

Debris clean-up efforts from Hurricane Helene are still underway. In case you missed our post last week, we want to remind you that the DOT is focusing on interstate and primary routes before they’ll be moving into neighborhoods and secondary roads. If you’re experiencing issues on a state-maintained roadway, please reach out to 855-467-2368 to report your concerns. To determine if you live on a state-maintained roadway, you can visit our website and view our GIS mapping tool: https://lnkd.in/enwwfT4y. Select the layers list icon on the left, filter to streets, then select “SC-DOT-Owned Streets” (you may have to zoom in and wait for it to load.)

The Convenience Center renovations are now underway! For anyone who missed it, the Center is now open again, even with the demolition going on. A temporary fence has been set up around the construction area but the rest of the Center is open. If there are any intermittent closures, we’ll be sure to let you know. The current items that the Center isn’t accepting includes: waste oil, household batteries, and e-waste.

We want to let you know our solid waste contractor Meridian Waste has resumed normal, bagged yard waste pickup. We are still working with SCDOT on cleaning up the debris from the impact of Hurricane Helene. The DOT has crews across the Upstate focusing first on interstate and primary routes before moving onto secondary and neighborhood roads. We understand this process has been lengthy for people in Greer, but we appreciate your continued patience as we continue the cleanup. A reminder to begin piling debris on the side of the road, safely out of the roadway. You can report issues on a state-maintained roadway by calling 855-467-2368. Find more information on the process on our website: https://lnkd.in/eivhMDVt
