The ECHO Project (Embodied Carbon Harmonization and Optimization) has just released two amazing resources that will help ramp up the adoption of whole-project embodied carbon. Why two? Enabling and promoting the transparency and democratization of embodied carbon quantification and analysis in infrastructure projects has been probably the most important mission I have been involved in for the last 3 years in Bentley Systems, since I started my current role. You can’t imagine the feeling of sharing the evolution from Early Access Program to General Availability of our web-based carbon analysis capabilities in iTwin, announced just now by our Chief Sustainability Officer Chris Bradshaw at #YII. 🚀 These capabilities (now available and free for all existing iTwin Experience users) include: - Automating bill of materials/quantities from models coming from various sources, vendors, or design authoring tools (from Bentley or 3rd party ISVs) - One-click export to leading LCA companies for embodied carbon footprint quantification and material selection (EC3 from Building Transparency and One Click LCA) - Rapid integration and visualization of A1-A3 (materials) embodied carbon (from EC3) back to iTwin viewer, using carbon heatmaps These capabilities ensure carbon can now be optimized since the early stages of design, enabling repeatable optimization and optioneering without being locked in on specific vendors. 📣 I am beyond excited to report that I have been appointed as a member of Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol)’s Scope 3 Technical Working Group. Through this group, I will be supporting the process to revise and update GHG Protocol’s Scope 3 Standard. The American Institute of Architects (AIA)'s latest 2030 By the Numbers Report was released this week and from 2022 to 2023, Tally usage soared by nearly 2,000%! We're thrilled to see an increase in embodied carbon calculation tools across all reported projects. We developed Tally, the first Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) app fully integrated into Autodesk® Revit®, to help designers quantify embodied carbon in building materials. In 2021, we gifted Tally to Building Transparency to increase its accessibility to the entire building and construction industry. We look forward to continuing our partnership as they expand Tally's capacities and audience to produce real, long-term impact on sustainability in the built environment. #AIA2030
