HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A Hastings native will be back to tell a story unique to the city in mid-October. Jessica Korgie is performing a one-woman show called ‘Andy Interrupted’, which is the story of Andy the Goose.

The show talks about her grandfather, Gene Fleming, who made the shoes for the footless goose in the 1980′s. Korgie was approaching her teenage years when the Associated Press got a hold of what her grandfather did.

“That impact is in a pre-internet world was phone calls and letters and request to go visit places and his life was greatly impacted because it gave him purpose,” said Korgie.

Korgie said her grandfather was retired at the time and didn’t expect to gain fame from his act of kindness.

Korgie is performing Andy Interrupted on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Hastings Museum, 33 years to the date of Andy’s death. Although, Andy the Goose life ended in a tragic murder, Korgie said since she was in high school people have told her she needs to tell the story. She feels now is the time to tell the story.

Korgie said this telling of Andy the Goose is uniquely catered to the Hastings audience. She said performing at home adds a little more pressure.

“I think like there’s a little additional pressure because like my mom says ‘please don’t swear,’” said Korgie. “So I think that there’s just the pressure like people know me. People know my family, people were apart of this story and so everybody has their own view of how it impacted them.”

Korgie said it’s her job as a storyteller to acknowledge that. Adding, she also wants to bring the audience to new places and create a new connection with Andy the Goose.

Tickets are on sale for $25 plus tax. Tickets can be purchased by calling Hastings Museum or online at hastingsmusem.org.

The event is designated 21 or over and there will be a cash-only bar.
