About us

We are a vibrant community of historians that strives for the very highest standards of research and education.

We aim to inspire and empower our students to achieve their scholarly potential within an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

The 2022 QS World University Rankings by Subject placed us 5th in the UK and 17th in the world. In the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF2021), 86 per cent of our research rated either ‘World leading’ (4*) or ‘Internationally excellent’ (3*).

Diversity & Inclusion

We attach great importance to pursuing equality, diversity and inclusion across all aspects of our activity, from staff and student experience to curriculum development. Our Diversity & Inclusion Committee coordinates our ongoing work to ensure that the History Department respects and values difference, removes barriers to inclusion and acts to address inequalities.

King's History Society

The History Society is one of the oldest student-run societies in the UK, and a registered member of King’s College London Students' Union (KCLSU). Its aim is to create more opportunities for History students to socialise outside of classes, through organising a range of events such as socials, walks and museum tours, as well as talks from renowned scholars. Additionally, the History Society publishes Muse, a history and current affairs magazine created by students.
