Henry Cavill is in talks to reprise his role as Superman in a forthcoming DC Comics film.
Cavill previously played Clark Kent in Superman origin story Man of Steel (2013) and then again in Batman vs Superman (2016) and most recently in Justice League (2017).
According to sources speaking to Variety, while there are no plans yet for a new standalone Superman film, Cavill will return as the superhero in another DC film.
This means he's likely to appear in one of Aquaman 2, The Suicide Squad or The Batman. Cavill's upcoming appearance as Superman in Zack Snyder's Justice League “Snyder Cut” will not require the actor to reshoot any scenes.
In December, the 37-year-old hinted at his return to the role. “The cape is still in the closet… It’s still mine,” he told Men’s Health.
“I’m not going to sit quietly in the dark as all the stuff is going on. I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into.
“I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see."
