Dune: Part One (2021)
We get it Denis, You're a minimalist...but why so cheap?!
I just wanna say, for fans of the books, we were lucky to get Denis Villeneuve as a director for it.... BUT... for goodness sake, I get it, he's a minimalist... I get it... it didn't work in dune... it was such utter stupidity... movie was butchered... no continuity in the story... nothing made sense... butchered scenes... butchered story... the choice of not putting MAJOR scenes in... he didnt even develop any characters, just a simple development of few characters.... why so cheap? Who told u to confuse people with a minimal story and very little character development?... it made no sense... had no gravity... And of course THE BANQUET SCENE.... Anyway, not only that, the visuals are dreadful and awful and not diverse at all... I get it, minimalist, I get it, Arakis and the desert is brown... I really get it... but few colors wudnt hurt.... seeing some deleted scenes on YouTube made me even angrier... if they were truly filmed, they wudve made a lot of sense to be kept in the movie... they wudve connected scenes, connected the story better... who edited this stupid version of Dune part 1?
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Soap Opera Pacing and Dialog- but... cud get there
This is for the writers and producers of this show (if ever they read these):
Guys, lower the soap opera index and higher the scientific and active/action scenes. (Not necessarily fighting and shooting scenes but more active scenes). U have kernels of ideas, good ideas which u completely disregard for soap opera drama and talking heads. U resolve grand dilemmas in 5 secs at the end of the eps and u spend the episode bathing in "Dynasty" stuff. With all due respect to dynasty, this is Star Trek ffs. I'm not saying also that your ideas for season 2 are groundbreaking, they are fun and light but so poorly constructed and resolved. Trust me. U have a good group, don't lose the chemistry between these actors.
Liu lang di qiu 2 (2023)
Just Fantastic
What a fantastic movie. Just that. Watch it. Trust me. It has the Chinese as the heroes who save the world, just like the Americans do in every other movie. If u were a person who doesn't mind whether it was American or Chinese or Zulu who save the world, you're gonna love it. It's long but it's epic and well structured. It has many language spoken in it and all the action and special effects are top notch. Even though it's about 3 hours, it won't bore you. The special effects, the action sequences, the futuristic technology is breathtakingly good and the movie will make you laugh and cry (sometimes for corny reasons but most of the times, genuinely). It's a story of hope and survival. What a surprise. Good job China. Welcome to the fold.
Altered Carbon (2018)
Brilliant
There will come a time when people and critics rewatch season 2 and find out how brilliant it is.
Doom Patrol (2019)
The high art of making good TV
Doom Patrol is so elegant and gauche, so brutal and sensitive, so retro and fresh, so chic and shabby, I love it, each episode is a work of art. It is, without a doubt, with its high quality production, superb writing and pace, creativity and silliness "only the best celluloid can offer"... Oh, and it's heroes have ridiculous powers and even more ridiculous faults and incapacity, they are so powerful but frail...
The show is absolutely immersive and I'm in awe at how every episode is a movie on its own yet all episodes go together clinically, even in structure you find duality in play, genius...
This series is so well crafted I can't believe that I'm waiting for a season 2 of a superhero series. Maybe the freedom of digital streaming subscriber based TV gives the correct merit comic books really deserve... That and always the wonderful DC production quality when it comes to making them live action. (Even if the DC movies are just awful, you see excellent production and hints of artistic genius which is devoid in Marvel movies).
When you watch anything with that much creativity and craftsmanship, it makes you jealous but also and possibly more importantly, it inspires you...
Star Trek: Discovery: Such Sweet Sorrow (2019)
Why is this show only rated at 7.4?
As u may have noticed, I am a big fan of this Star Trek, so this review is favorable to the series and to this episode.
To start off with, this episode was amazing. All the emotions you've invested in this show, in its characters, in its complicated plot, are brought to fruition in a tear dropping and well-written way... And it's so good to invest in this show because no emotion is left behind...
Moreover, I find myself wanting to explain that this is just the prologue to the much bigger finale, and it is a wonderful prologue which makes it a wonderful slower paced episode. As one reviewer put it, it's the calm before the storm. Digest all the emotions of the series, digest all the story plots, digest all the relationships, digest them with this episode and brace yourself for a great finale.
Furthermore, this show is all about honor, sacrifice, doing the right thing, being the best human, and these are all given to you straight up, in a direct way as if, you the viewer, must know that these are the traits upon which the characters revolve, and I guess this is what Star Trek is about, the best of humanity still facing existential crisis in a future of technology..... If you don't like that, then this series is not for you...
Finally, I would reiterate my initial statement, why is this show only rated at 7.4?
Star Trek: Discovery: Light and Shadows (2019)
One heck of an episode
I just like how the writers are crafting complicated stories into complicated and weird science.
This episode builds up to a lot of stuff and it feels as if the season is just about to begin.
The nuances are ever present: not everything is clear cut or black and white like: logical and illogical- or past present and future- or murderer or innocent- or ....
And Michael Burnham is just electrifying to watch. Passionate, present, nuanced too.
One more thing, in this episodes, like in many others, the show-runners show a rich and creative plethora of imagined worlds and civilizations and they are not lazy about it.
This show is pretty smart and I like it.
Future Man (2017)
Season 2 even better than season 1
Although season 1 was really good, season 2 is a blast! It's just a ride to watch and just like its premise, it takes you along through one of the greatest adventures any time traveler can have.
High quality and serious production, performance and directing is put to this highly un-serious, sometimes farcical, never too far the line though, TV show. Worth every penny and we highly anticipate season 3.
The comedy is nailed, the 30 mins format fits perfectly, and the it never gets old as you binge through it. 13 episodes in season 2 felt like a 30 min episode. Loved it. Love to work on crazy passionate projects like that.
Such a tight season 2, with all the traps and tropes of time travel, not a single plot hole.
The Tesla Files (2018)
Starts off slow, but wait until episode 3 and 4 and 5
I am only writing this review because something "fishy" happened to this show that it stopped.
