Let's be clear; this film is done on a very low budget. Having said that, the script is tightly written, the plot makes sense and continually surprises. I enjoyed watching this far more than most of the recent superhero offerings.
A group of strangers volunteer for clinical trials and end up getting super-powers. Chaos ensues.
The special effects are lightweight, but effectively employed. The actors are well cast and give strong performances. I particularly liked the "Phil" character, which was tragic and pathetic at the same time.
This film is the reason why you should give low budget, indie films your time. They are often more creative, take more risks, and are more rewarding than your big budget Hollywood projects.

Chicken Run came out in 2000 (!!!) and was a brilliant parody of The Great Escape. The sequel is clever enough to not attempt the same thing, instead sending up the classic Bond movies, with a dash of The Truman Show thrown in.
Unfortunately the ending feels a lot like A Close Shave, but less creative and funny.
Almost all of the cast have been replaced, which is not surprising after such a long hiatus. However, I am not sure why British voice actors could not have been found. Having said that, the cast do a good job and I do not have any complaints with any of the performances.
Overall, a decent sequel, but not anything that will stay with you.

Godzilla has always been a metaphor for the trauma of the nuclear weapons used against Japan. Godzilla Minus One fully embraces the post-WWII trauma of Japan and centres the story on the human drama. Guilt, shame, grief and love form the heart of this film. Godzilla is the trauma made manifest against the desire to move on and learn to live (and love) again.
The special effects absolutely deserve their Oscar. Done on a fraction of a Hollywood budget, the monster and its devastation feel absolutely real. It moves with real weight (how you might imagine a 20,000 tonne creature to move), while still looking like the original Godzilla from 70 years ago. The scene with the battleship being tossed across the bay instilled me with a sense of awe that I have not felt from a film in years. Big CGI effects have become so commonplace that directors have forgotten how to use them to create actual wonder.
I recommend this film without reservation.
