Khel Khel Mein (2024)
The best Independence day release of 2024
Unpopular opinion :-
Out of all 3 Independence day releases, The best is Khel Khel Mein. It jst shows how superficial frndships n relationships r in today's world. There is only one person who truly loves u, n thats u urself, along with ur parents. Don't expect any morality from ur partner as nobody is a saint today. Mudassar Aziz told such a harsh reality in a totally comic manner. But at the end, u realise this is a very important film for the society. Taapsee rocks again as a panjaban after Dunki. The background score of the song parde mein rehne do is too appropriate for the movie. Jst one advice of wisdom : don't watch it with ur partner.
Maharaja (2024)
Maharaja of thrillers
I saw in Book My Show that it was released in a multiplex. So instead of watching it on TV, I rode to the hall. Burning petrol was worthwhile. An outstanding revenge drama, with an extraordinary parallel storytelling. 2 tracks run simultaneously. Vijay Sethupathi is taking the art of under-acting to the level of Irrfan Khan. The greatest quality of this genre is that whether the character is good or bad is not clear until the end, And that is the speciality of Sethupathi. At the end Anurag Kashyap's performance is also eye-catching. But thriller experts can guess the last twist much earlier. Old Boy's essence got spread like old spice's. Only the accident is not at all convincing. A proper reason should have been found for it. Apart from this weakness, this film comes out with letter marks. And the last scene is incomparable.
Kill (2023)
Kill The makers
There should be a limit to overrating. Nowadays animals named people are making a fuss about any film just because of violence. This year the same extravagance was done with Pariah. But that film had a good story. And Kill has nothing but some fancy way of killing. Such a hollow picture is rarely seen. And the worst is to kill the main villain easily without making him suffer. Exactly what happened to pariah's Soumya Mukherjee. Vikram just cut his throat. I mean bro, first cut his limbs one by one, but no. It happened to Raghav Juyal as well. Lakshya killed him without torturing. Who knows why the heroes are so kind to them? The shadow of Memento is present here. But the way I got agitated with Ghajini, this time I got even more angry. I was wondering why I came to see this crap. How could i rely on the taste of Indians? Somehow, Maharaja diluted that annoyance to some extent.
Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene (2015)
Black Comedy is the future
Black Comedy - How underrated and underseen this genre is, can be understood by looking at these films. The film has implemented how black money laundering is carried out in India. But with a smile. Such a serious subject is shown with a light smile. Zayed Khan has shown his acting skills in the last film of his life. And the rest is handled by Anupam Kher with his layered acting. The film is so good that even Rannvijay's performance is tolerable. But for the so-called rational audience, kgf public will not understand anything. One has to keep one's brain alert while watching which is the opposite of Indian commercial films. I myself saw the film 8 years after its release and realized that neglecting a small budget film is a crime. The recent Crew is a similar film which in my opinion is the best Hindi film of the year so far.
Nayan Rahasya (2024)
Better than the Book
Which is the best Feluda movie? 70% people will say Sonar Kella. And that is the correct answer. But is the film better than the novel Sonar Kella? No way. Rather its a little shorter than the story. Joy Baba Felunath could not even come close to the novel. The canvas of stories is much larger than life. So no film from Sonar Kella to Hatyapuri is better than the original story.
But what a hullabaloo! This is the first time an adaptation has overshadowed its original story. Yes, what you are reading is true. Sandip Ray's experienced direction has made the impossible possible. But one of the reasons is definitely that this story belongs to the last Feluda stories when God's health was going through a very tough time. Hence the subsequent stories after Golapi Mukta Rahasya are not so popular among the readers. But even in that situation God did not deprive us of Feluda. He wrote until the last day of his life...
Leave that context. Let me tell you why this movie is better than the story:-
1. The thrill I felt while watching the film, I did not while reading the story.
2. The story does not analyze the motive for the prime crime. Here it is understood why the crime took place.
3. Indraneil Sengupta's eloquence spills over a bit between Topse and Jatayu in this film.
4. Supriyo Dutta. What an actor this guy is, now people will understand. TNT is an outstanding character which is a challenge for any actor. Had God been alive, he would have certainly taken Harindranath Chatterjee and he would have sensationalized the audience with his overacting. But portraying such a crazy character so fluently was not easy at all.
5. Abhinaba Barua. The nayan of Nayan literally speaks. A worthy successor of Mukul has been found so far.
6. Director creates terror in the audience by only showing close-ups of hands and feet of Gawangi.
7. A little glimpse of Robertsoner Ruby. The sequence of Naskar hypnotising Jatayu has been recreated in Tarafdar's magic show.
Also, the performances of Debnath Chatterjee and Rajesh Sharma will keep the audience hooked.
So is this film Sandip Ray's best Feluda?
No, it's not. Bombaiyer Bombete, Tintorettor Jishu, Gorosthane Sabdhan and Royal Bengal Rahasya - these four are on a different level. But Sandip Sir's expertise is in making a tight film from such a relatively weak story.
Tarokar Mrityu (2023)
Again a Remake of The Body
Another attempt of remaking Spanish movie The Body after the hindi remake of same name. But this short & songless Bengali movie is much better than the unbearable hindi one which even stalwarts like Rishi Kapoor (Ranjit Mallick) & Emraan Hashmi (Ritwick Chakraborty) couldn't save. The songs added to the headache. The Bengali one works as it doesn't try anything flashy. Songs are really unnecessary in a murder mystery & the director Haranath Chakraborty understood that. Another masterstroke was turning the character of Sobhita Dhulipala (Parno Mitra) into a positive one. Haranath Chakraborty is really doing well since Baghbandi Khela. Ranjit Mallick is too natural as an actor who overshadows ritwick's repetitive acting in every character he plays.
Animal (2023)
All of us are primitive Animals
I don't generally watch a movie so early after release. But there was an indomitable curiosity about this one. So went for the 11 pm show like a nocturnal Animal. & what I realised is, this film is the sixth hindi version of The Godfather, but in a completely Indian style. And all from Michael Corleone's point of view this time. A character that even Aamir Khan failed to play, none except Govinda made such an impact. But the greatest actor of the Kapoor family did no injustice. He was trying hard to break his traditional romantic image since 2015, this time he succeeds. But what about the movie? Recently the most successful films in India i.e. Jawan, RRR, KGF, Vikram, Pushpa are almost all stories of male dominated violence. The reason for their success is the larger-than-life display of primitive human instincts. In fact, humans are also a type of animals. And Animals can not live without two things. Sex and violence. We socially avoid these things as civilized beings, but love to watch them. The director has triggered exactly both of these. Camouflaged with his familiar male chauvinism. However, unlike Arjun Reddy or Kabir Singh, the heroine in this film is not mute and deaf, but her feminist protest is hard to understand through her unintelligible accent. I could not support the paternalistic support of infidelity. And why the hell did police not come even after killing people like insects? It is as if Akash Ambani can start killing without hesitation if Mukesh Ambani is attacked. There is no such thing as law in the country. The twist in the climax revealed that the sequel is going to be Ranbir vs Ranbir like Brahmastra.
So is the movie that bad? Not really. Because there are some good things too. One of those is Bobby Deol, whose violent behavior resumes the film's downward momentum after half-time. And the biggest USP of this film is the interval action sequence. This scene is one of the best action scenes in Indian cinema. Adrenaline will go up to the head if you see it in theatre. But there is something better than that too. That is Loyalty for parents. Many boys will become paternal devotees after seeing this picture. Yes, but I don't know if the boy working in Bangalore or Gurgaon who is living with his wife and children will change by heart, but the boys like me who can't live without their parents, will definitely get tears in their eyes when they will hear the song saari duniya jalaa denge.
OMG 2 (2023)
More complex but less effective
The sequel fair is being held in the month of August. This fair is held all over the country. Two Hindi, one Bengali. Among them, the prequels of a Hindi and the Bengali film are also among the top 10 Hindi and Bengali films of all time. I have reviewed to the Bengali one, now it's Hindi's turn. (And yes, I haven't seen the prequel to the third movie yet and I won't watch the sequel).
Anyway, as I said this Hindi movie prequel is one of the top 10 Hindi movies. So expectations were high. I still regret not seeing the previous film in theatre. This one also does not disappoint. But some points did not match with the previous picture. Previously it was the existential crisis of God. But this time God appeared like a service center. And the first film objected to the monetary bribes, here Shiva took rs.285/- for his service. These two things seem a bit odd. But the matter on which this courtcase is held is our most sensitive issue. No matter how much it is discussed, this sensitivity will remain. And that's why I have no sympathy for Pankaj Tripathi's son. But a way to overcome the inertia of this complex object has been shown. A lot of wood still needs to be burnt for that method to be effective. And two things are fun to see. The first is the hero Shiva and the villain Ram. Arun Govil is the villain of this film. And the second is Lord Shiva sings the song of the film's biggest rival, "Ur Jaa Kale Kawa". Very skillfully made. But not as impactful as the prequel. A remake or a sequel to a classic, neither can go to the same level just like the bengali one, Proloy.
Chup (2022)
A pathbreaking classic just like its guru Kaagaz ke Phool
Just watched the Hindi film of 2022. I really feel bad for myself and my city that this masterpiece lasted only two weeks. Many have continued to call this film a murder mystery, first of all we need to get everyone out of this misconception. You don't have to be too smart to find out who the murderer is. Rather, this film breaks out of the usual format of whodunnit and focuses on whydunnit. And there is the director's brilliance. This decision is understandible because the number of suspects is very low. But even after knowing the killer, the enthusiasm did not decrease a bit. Rather, the curiosity is doubled to know the motive. And the motive is so strong that an awe is created in the audience. But this is not all. I understood today that Dulquer can control the whole game if he gets the field. He is the best actor of the current generation pan India. Acting can be done with acting talent, but the boy did not act. Survived in the character. Pooja Bhatt came after a long time and surprised in a small role. Sunny Deol is acting well past 60 by mistake. But the real hero is the story. As rightly said, 'content is king'. A tribute to Guru Dutt has also been paid with the film. Not only for the audience, but actually this film is for those who love cinema. So when the heroine says, "The whole world is boring without cinema", it seems like,
"Sir, bol woh rahi hai, lekin shabd hamare hain".
Fight Club: Members Only (2006)
The most tasteless people in this world are Indians
We live in a world where this masterpiece is rated 3.5. This is an ultimate entertainment bonanza. It has every element of entertainment. Action, emotion, comedy, romance, great dialogues n superb music & bgm. But it released in a country where people have no class. It is actually 100 times better than the english fight club. Even after 17 yrs, hasnt lost its charm at all.
Just watching it right now & feeling disgusted that this action classic did not do well & due to the failures of these great movies, we lost the genre of multistarrer action movies in bollywood. I still remember one of my friends bashed this movie after watching in theatre. Wanted to slap him right then 17 yrs ago.
Arjun Patiala (2019)
We have a fairly backward audience here, said God
Ok, a witty, hillarious, mad comedy like this is not liked by people of this country. Not only this, its predecessor Dhoondte reh jaaoge was also not successful. Indians are dumb. Whenever something is made that tickles their neurones, they just cant handle it. This is a cult classic in this genre of slapstick comedies which is actually filled with the brainless films of David Dhawan. So when an intellectual comedy is made, it bounces over the head of the zero i.q.audience of this country. There are millions of prime subscribers who are still yet to experience this gem. & I hope they never get to watch this great film as they dont deserve it.
Charas: A Joint Effort (2004)
Is desh ke saath mazaak kiya jaa raha hai
Ok we live in a country where a masterpiece like charas is rated 5.3 on imdb. There is a monologue in the film, "this country is being joked with". But actually this country is a joke itself.
Irfan's best performance till date, uday & jimmy correcting their mistake of mohabbatein, the most detailed movie on indian drugs ever made. This is a pure classic in all aspects. Dhulia's best as a director. Released much ahead of time. Could be a gem for ott viewing. Released along with another classic Khakee & both failed to create that impact what it was made. But did they actually fail? No, Humanity failed in 2004.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022)
Brahmastra Cinematic Universe
I was waiting for today. The fun of watching a 3D movie on PVR for 75 rs. Is different. Not even 75, with BMS voucher it cost 62 rs. At the end. Sympathy for the group of lunatics who have already seen this picture.
Now let's come to this epic movie. The movie started with Shah Rukh Khan, but that didn't work. Because SRK lost to Mouni Roy. Then started Ranveer-Alia's love affair which looked like they were on their honeymoon. Finally it took speed with the arrival of Nagarjuna. Indeed Shiva of RGV gave 10 goals to Shiva of Brahmastra. After a comeback of 20 yrs, he did not let the audience turn their eyes back. By intermission, the pace was heating up.
But then again the same, Alia just slows down the movie. Big B took over and tried to make a very complicated plot as simple as possible. Ranveer's parents are everything in this story. And they are probably Deepika-Ranveer Singh. Part 2 is completely their story. In this story, Mouni Roy finally wakes up the real villain and dies. It's like Thanos collecting infinity stones.
This is the story. Saw many reviews, but no one noticed that YRF -Yash Raj Films had appeared on TV screens an era ago with a similar story. That serial was called Seven. Nusrat Barucha's first work. Basic concept remains same. Now only to see how Ranveer accepts his ex as his mother. However, this film will build a franchise like Marvel and will end in 4-5 parts. Comics will also come out. And very interestingly, it is Mohan Bhargava from Swadesh who is the superhero Hanuman of this film. With how he got this power, Swadesh Part 2 is coming up, which will be a prequel to this film. So like Marvel, individual superhero movie is also going to be in Brahmastra cinematic universe. There is no use thinking about good or bad now because the shell has just been removed. But India has never seen such a spectacular film in 3D before.
Ek Villain Returns (2022)
Much better n logical than the 1st part
Finally the makers of malang became the saviour of bollywood in these hard times. Malang was the last greatest creation of bollywood. This one is not so great, but a superb movie for sure. The prequel was a headache as it had no storyline. Only Ritesh saved it with great acting skills. But the 2nd part had a logical story which could motivate a serial killer. Also we all wanted to kill ritesh with bare hands, but here we sympathise with the killer (atleast i did). Arjun did a fine job after sandeep n pinky, n slaps his trollers. But the movie belongs to john who once again proves his worth in psychic character like zinda. The movie can also revive their careers too. But the real hero is mohit suri who is a master of storytelling in his own way. Ek villain fans might hate it, but ek villain haters like me should enjoy this more sensible thriller.
Krishna Cottage (2004)
New wine in an old bottle
Same Bees Saal Baad, Suryavanshi format. Hero is reborn, heroine becomes a ghost. That means men have this extra Y chromosome responsible for rebirth. But well told, succeeds in scaring the audience. Not as cheap & ridiculous as bees saal baad.
Forensic (2022)
It's Forensic + Ratsasan
Name Forensic. But it should have been forensic sasan. Because Forensic has been marinated perfectly with Ratasasan to cook a new delicacy. You have to watch the movie to know why and how. Director Vishal Furia had earlier remade his marathi film Lapachhapi completely unchanged in Hindi. So this time the changes were unexpected. But I have no hesitation in saying that this Hindi film is better than these two great southern thrillers. The twists of the story, the layers of mystery, the sense of humour are all more in this film. Dr. Salunkhe of C. I. D. Has been called the father of Indian forensics, which would be fun to watch. In fact, the raw materials from those two thrillers has been manufactured in a Bollywood factory. However, south's feet licking fans will defame it. Enjoy this picture without listening to their words.
Samrat Prithviraj (2022)
Intolerably Bad
A queen dancing before jumping into fire, A King dancing while his men fights out the enemy, A royal poet singing while his king arrives in the arena of captivity. I dont know whether its historically authentic or not. But it's crap writing that's for sure.
Superstar (2008)
A beautiful film
Kunal is so underrated that these beautiful movies are never talked about. Emotions were very well crafted. Rohit Jugraj can handle a heartless James, a ridiculous Arjun Patiala & at the same time an emotional Superstar. 2000s is all about great scripts & this is one of them.
Surakshaa (1995)
Wholesome Entertainment
Suraksha is one of those rare 90s movies which is entertaining from all aspects like Main hoon na. I could only think of Mohra in the 90s which is similarly enjoyable due to a great plot. I am a multistarrer action movie fan who went to watch awara paagal deewana alone in childhood. Suraksha is a nostalgic gem to me as it still brings my childhood back.
Shikara (2020)
Mini kashmir files
1st attempt at the exodus of kashmiri pandits before kashmir files which is bigger & more detailed. But this one focuses on a couple & their never ending love which continued beyond death. A heart wrenching love story that will make you sad. The hero lost everything in his life but yet kept a smile on his face & that smile is more painful than watching someone cry.
83 (2021)
Cricket n Movies are the only 2 religions in the world
Today I felt unfortunate.... Unfortunate of not having been born in the era when Indian Cricket rose to its excellence. When a few good men had the courage of facing the mighty Double world cup champions West Indies n beating them twice in the same world cup. When these men beat the home team England in the semis. Also felt jealous of ppl who could actually witness the cup lifting of Kapil Dev with bare eyes. But Kabir Khan n team 83 must hv realised this pain of the current generation n tried to repeat the whole telecast for us on the silver screen. Yes, this is truly a repeat telecast of the 83 world cup with all authentic facts n statistics. No movie in the entire world has documented cricket so accurately as 83 has. Everyone is concerned abt the transformation of Ranveer, but each n every actor in the team has been transformed so appropriately that it no more looks like a movie. Jeeva who played Shrikanth brought him alive on the screen. Its jst a boon for ppl who missed those moments. Its also the only recorded telecast of Kapil Dev's Gigantic 175 runs that was never captured live. But thats not the only usp. I never knew that late Shri Yashpal Sharma played a very crucial role in the middle order in that tournament. Never thought Roger Binny teased Viv Richards n went on to become the highest wicket taker. It is full of such key info n moments that will make u proud. Proud of belonging to a country that is known for its courage.
But am I only proud? No. I m ashamed too of being let down by the ppl of this country today. These ppl r criticising this great film n that is affecting the box office verdict n negative publicity. I cant help turning into a hater of ppl by this heinous crime they r committing. I can only advice u to go for this movie without caring for any review that u hv seen so far. Not even mine. If u miss this movie, u ll miss a cherishable 2.40 hrs.of ur life that u ll regret forever.
There is no sport greater than cricket,
There is no Sportsmovie greater than 83.
The Ghost and the Darkness (1996)
Reality is Scarier
I have always said & believed that ghost thrillers are not scary as they do not belong to reality. There are some movies on wildlide thar are actually more haunting than the stupid ghost movies. This one scared the hell out of me in childhood. The best wildlife adventure i have seen in my life. But it doesnt really scare you. It also encourages to fight your fear. There is nothing, absolutely nothing scarier than those 2 lions in tsavo who were on a carnage in 1893. If a single man, John H. Patterson could kill them, no fear is impossible to overcome.
Anjaam (1994)
The Bravest step taken in bollywood
Nobody could have imagined the Casting of srk & madhuri for the 1st time, but not in a love story, but in a vengeance drama. That too srk as the villain in a woman centric film. This thought itself deserves an applaude. Some movies are beyond the limits of their box office verdict & needs to be given respect forever. Anjaam is one of those honorable films which the audience couldnt accept at the time of release due to the shock, but they can never deny the impact of it. Srk has not become what he is today just like that. He will be remembered as the most versatile & audacious actor in future. Madhuri dixit is a naturally talented actress & she shocked everyone with her brilliant performance in this film. This one should achieve cult status now.
Badlapur (2015)
Brave & Dark
A movie that is only one of its kind. Bollywood is full of revenge dramas but this one stands out with reality, darkness, cruelty & most imporantly the evil inside each of us. Reminds us that everyone has a beast inside that needs a reason to unleash. At the end, the hero turns a bigger villain than the villain himself. Nawaz got a lot of praise for it. But for me, its a varun dhawan movie. I even feel pity for him when he turned rogue & that was due to his acting skills. He wants to make a statement by this one & october but his father is destroying him.
Darna Mana Hai (2003)
Rare & unique
I dont know good or bad. But its something very very different from all movies made in India. It was experimental. Anthologies were not popular in india 20 yrs back when Rgv dared to create such a unique movie. Its d only one of its kind along with its sequel which was not so impactful.
