I've been pretty much immune to the hype or temptations of Star Wars since after this dear film was released. That's not because of Star Wars itself but rather its insufferably toxic fanbase.
The absolute nonstop hatred towards this dumb/harmless piece of Hollywood escapism is completely pathetic, especially when it's already pretty par for the course for the franchise.
Star Wars as a whole has never, and I mean never, been high art except in its pioneering of visual effects.
The writing was always bad, the dialogue cheesier than fondue, and the lore ever changing and retconned.
I confidently predict that this film, like the prequels, will be viewed as a masterpiece by Generation Alpha and Beta in the next 15-20 years. That's exactly what happened with Gen Z kids and the prequels. People will retcon and defend this perfectly average film and overhype it just like all the others, except the original trilogy. As a whole, Rise of Skywalker is FINE. Sure, it's really dumb but so was Attack of the Clones. Even Revenge of the Sith was pretty dumb.
I was perfectly ok with Abrams trying to apologize to fans and doing some lame fan service because I frankly take this franchise with a very large grain of salt. You can't please everyone and you never will.

I never thought I'd actually watch this overhyped dumpster fire of a movie but I finally did. And I'm kind of mad that I did. I wanted to give it a fair shake after criticizing it so harshly among friends when I hadn't seen it. Well now I've seen it, and I think I hate it more. Here's why:
The whole character of Deadpool is a painfully self aware and cynical character. In theory, he still is that character but not in practice. The most self aware anti-hero is placed in the most tone deaf franchise whilst still trying to make jokes about Marvel being bad. That doesn't make the movie funny or better. It just proves that this movie is really bad and all the actors involved have become soulless sell outs to the House of Mouse, especially that of Hugh Jackman. He was given a reverent and proper send of for his character only to end up selling out for a juvenile exercise in shameless Hollywood greed.
The relentless middle school cynicism/"humor" clashes very hard with cloying sentimentality that doesn't fit the main character or the overall tone of the film whatsoever. Then there's the endless amount of forced fan service that serves no purpose other than causing a brief jolt of excitement until the movie completely dissipates and gets replaced with some other wasteful Marvel cash grab. The only thing keeping me from giving this a 1/10 are the customer designs and fight choreography. I could continue rambling on about my deep seeded hatred for this film but it's really not worth it.

Over the course of a couple of years, I've been moseying through a top 50 list of most disturbing movies. I was already exactly halfway through so I chose to watch this one because it's short. And thank god it was. As of today, this is honest to god one of my least favorite films I have ever had the displeasure of watching. I knew it was going to be an unpleasant watch but I was at least expecting some good gore effects. No. None to be had. This is essentially a very filthy (in both senses of the word) fetish film with horrible production values, abysm acting, a ham fisted "twist", and needless debauchery of the most unappetizing, unerotic kind. Thinking about this film makes me angry. One big pile of crap.
