After the bad reviews and it's rushed cinema release I never saw John Carter in the cinema. But then i saw it on Blu-ray when it was released, and I was entertained and a bit shocked. This movie is not for anyone for sure, but it has this 80s-90s adventure sci-fi movie feeling to it. Like classics like Krull or Willow. I really liked the story and the special FX was good. It's more of a family adventure movie and should be seen as that. And i really liked the idea and twist in the end. Too bad it flopped at the box Office.
I grew up in the 80s with my grandparents renting this on VHS over and over again. It's one of thouse movies that took me back then by storm. It has a bit of Star Wars and a bit of Sword in the stone/King Arthur mixed in to this perfect fantasy like adventure movie.
From start to finish there is a pretty fast pace through everything. And no part felt boring for a child in the 80s in this movie. Great effects for it's time that might look outdated by todays CGI standards, but that shouldent take away much if your looking for a Classic Sci-fi fantasy movie from the 80s. And this one actually has the most amazing weapon used in any movie out there period. I think all actors did great in this movie and some of them became big or known stars later on in their carrer. And Ken Marshall should have been one of them in my opinion.
Krull has a very special vibe to it, that is hard to describe in words. So give it a go if you havent, and enjoy the adventure in this Classic tale of good vs exil.
This movie is one if the best action classics from the early 90s. It was a very underrated movie when it was released, but it has grown to be a cult classic on it's own merits.
Alot of movies has tried to copy it through the years, like The fast and furious. Still story wise and acting wise they never actually reach the level like this one did. This one has alot more to offer with raw action and gorgeous scenes that is breathtakingly even today.
Patrick Swayze did one of his best acting performances in this movie as adrenalin junky guru Bodhi that should have given him alot more credit then it did. Same goes for Gary Busey and his character that is both fun and believable.
If you want a fast paced, action packed movie look no further, see the original Point Break!
