The Man with 1000 Kids (2024)
Very interesting story
This series asks an important question: morality vs legality! It is really interesting on how one could exploit the system, do we need global laws that can be imposed everywhere, maybe yes! With increasing communication across borders, i see this is the just the tip of what we could see in the future. While I see happiness with the verdict at the end, i believe it is really hard to impose it unless all the sperm donor banks unite to maintain a counter. Johnathon is just one of the main serial donors and this area requires a lot of work and regulations. The way it is right now is scary and we should do better.
White Hot: The Rise & Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch (2022)
Interesting marketing approach that would not work anymore
This gives the history of one of the biggest retailers we all noticed growing up. This brand marketing is what ran it, it is an exclusive brand targeting white males- right from models to people working at their stores had a similar image - that's funny. This might not work any more today and it's evident - but once they tried setting what is cool and what is not - most people kinda bought it making it a big retailer. Wow this is really interesting documentary - this movie really shows how we as a society have evolved in the past few decades. I'd recommend watching it, changed my perspective, recommend.
Man on the Run (2023)
informational movie
This shows a really high profile scam which went unseen with a lot of big figures spanning across countries and industries. The movie is informative but is not in best form of entertainment or even a good documentary. Could be taken better for cinematic effects or experience but would recommend everyone to watch the movie for sake of learning about one of the biggest scandals in recent times. When the key politicians and big name firms get inloved, everything from investigations to serving justice could be a challenge but requires the justice to renew the faith in the democratic systems. Watch for information.
Mumbai Mafia: Police vs the Underworld (2023)
Good Documentary on Mumbai
Mumbai is the financial capital of India and one of major cities globally. It is fascinating that someone controlled mumbai and taxed others in addition to Govt just a few decades ago.
Don't expect it to be a movie but it is a good documentary on Mumbai history and some key events which happened in 1990s. I was too young then and this is a perfect history chapter for me I needed.
It shows the rise of mafia and how police has curbed down on mafia but then slowly how police started to show power and then slowly eventually there was an equilibrium.
Fun fact: the word "encounter" was in fact Indian English.
The Playlist (2022)
Good entrepreneurship show. skip the last episode
The story of Spotify was well explained. I really love the episodes context, each has a particular theme from the perspective of a different stakeholder. I like the ones on the law, the coder and few others, but last episode on the artist is not well covered, it could have been better.
It is one of the top shows for entrepreneurship, except the last episode. Highly recommend watching how the music streaming market is made. Sweden played a major role with pirate bay, spotify, avicii, and other top things that happened in the music industry during that era.
The coder episode is way too real and relatable.
Overall, great show.
Longest Third Date (2023)
Cute pandemic story
Impressive story on how things unfolded for the two to fall for each other. The vlogs were converted into a movie, which is also interesting.
The couple decided to travel to cheapest destination for their third date and little did they know that they would be struck there amidst the pandemic. The plot makes me personally question if there is ever. A good time to fall in love or be in a relationship, maybe it is good to be with someone who you like. Not every relationship has to be toxic or end in a bad way, the best relationship might come in when you least expect it in life and that is life.
Free Solo (2018)
Must watch
I had goosebumps watching Alex take over El Cap. It is nerve wracking to see how one trains their mind and body for the unachievable. Just because it is not done previously does not mean it cannot be done ever. This is a film about true passion, we humans often do somethings for the sake of doing it, there is no real rationale. This movie shows the extremes of where that could take to. Fortunately, it had a good ending.
I highly recommend watching it.
I started rock climbing a month ago and everyone talk about Free Solo and so I watched it. This is a really amazing sport and he is a great role model of how far one could go till.
Joker (2019)
Makes you think
Depicts someone who suffered all his life to become someone society does not want. Makes me question the situations in current world, like divide between the rich and the poor.
Sardar Udham (2021)
What a legend
I never knew about this freedom fighter and I am really happy to learn about such an important incident in Indian history. Trigger warning: I am really upset and Britesh Govt should really apologize for the dark episode.
Bad Boy Billionaires: India (2020)
Heard of these names, now I know the stories
Highly recommended docuseries. These were very recent stories I grew up to but never really knew what happened and how it happened. Really informative on few incidents that tell the story. These bad boys are really smart and crossed lines on few aspects, else I would have called them role models.
Mumbai Diaries (2021)
nerve wracking
The first episode is kinda slow and i got super bored. But from episode the heat caught up - love the energy as they the episodes progressed. Can't disagree that they added more cringe than needed, but definitely a great show. Shows the intensity of situation in Mumbai.
Jai Bhim (2021)
Must watch
Shows police brutality against the tribals and I really have a huge respect for Justice K chandru. Very heart touching story and the hero is really smart.
Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal (2021)
Dark reality of College Admissions
The movie shows side-doors to college admissions and how the system is broken.
The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin (2014)
Bitcoin's early age is well captured
This is a 2014 historic documentary on Bitcoin. It is documented very early stages of adoption, development of this new innovation. Their optimism in the technology is what led to the current blockchain ecosystem today.
Why Him? (2016)
Love the vibe
Potrays the life of a techie trying to impress traditional girls parents
Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things (2015)
A new philosophy to life
"Love people and use things, because it's not gonna work the opposite way!"
Especially at a point in my life where I am just on shopping spree- much needed
Inside Job (2010)
A perfect documentary on Financial Crisis
The documentary covered the analysis of financial crisis from the perspective of various stakeholders: Investment banks, The Government and Federal Regulatory bodies. It also covered how academia are supporting false publications and hence teaching at top business schools. An eye opening documentary.
