The bubonic plague aka the Black Death has reached England late in the 12th century. Half of those who contact the disease, die. Naturally, people wonder why God has inflicted this terrible event on them. There is no answer. But, word arrives that deep in a forest, there may be cure or a way to restore the dying. Black magic may be involved. A group of Christian knights and a devoted monk travel to find the truth. What is it? This film has Eddie Redmayne and Sean Bean, two fine actors. But why they chose to appear in this violent, sadistic film is beyond me. Yes, the sets and costumes are interesting. But, there is very little enlightenment on the disease itself. Stay stay stay away.
In a perpetually dark space mining colony, Rain - Cailie Spaeny - believes she's about to be freed from her slave contract. She, along with her adopted android brother, Andy - David Johnsson - will have a free life elsewhere. Not so fast, Rain. Weyland - Yutani just added 6 years to your contract. Not even Andy's lame jokes can make her smile. However, Rain and pals Kay, Tyler, Bjorn and Navarro hatch a plan. A remnant of the ship Nostromo is nearby and they're going to hijack it, head for a sunny planet. But, this remains of a ship also has cells from the face huggers. Soon, it's humans vs Aliens again. Who will remain alive? This new entry into the Alien franchise is very fine. With a largely unknown cast, Romulus reworkss familiar elements with new ones for a strong story of its own. Be it your first Alien film or your 7th, you will enjoy AR.
In 1959, Dick - Scott Wilson - borrows his Dads car to help a friend. Or so he says. In truth, he is picking up another ex-con named Perry - Robert Blake in KC, Missouri. Dick needs Perry to help him execute a perfect score. That is, rob a wealthy west Kansas farm owner rumored to have a safe with $10000. And they will leave no witnesses. Meanwhile, the farmer Herb Clutter, wife Bonnie, daughter Nancy and son Kenyon spend a typical Saturday, helping others and doing farm work. Herb actually buys a new life insurance policy. Sadly, the Clutters are murdered in the wee hours of Sunday morn. Dick and Perry go on the lam. Will Detective Alan Dewey find the killers? This excellent film of Truman Capotes classic book is amazing. Wilson and Blake are beyond fabulous as the cold blooded killers. Above that, is the look of the film. In black and white, every frame is a treasure of cinematography. Director Brooks deserves high praise for a nearly flawless film.
