Aoki ryûsei SPT Reizunâ (1985)
An epic masterpiece of its glorious era. 10/10
I haven't completed watching these serries yet but i have reached episode 23. I am a fan of this genre and i consider the decades of 80s and early 90s to be the zenith in its history. This anime have magnetized me so hard like none before. The atmosphere grips you from the neck and in case your mind tries the trip to be in the shoes of any of the leading characters , the panic will give shivers down your spine. As a classic masterpiece of its glorious era ,the story has strong character focusing , the mecha design can be compared to the ones of Gundam of the same era , the animation during mecha fights is awesome for its age, the soundtrack magnificent and the sound effects unique. I would recommend this anime to anyone to watch. I have it in my collection to share its awesomeness with my kids in the future.
Valhalla Rising (2009)
A pure uprising to the "halls of golden shields".
What to say about this masterpiece. its simple and raw like the music of the metal band Bathory. If you hit the play button and you expect to see a blonde hair dude with sweet muscles wielding swords of the heaven and stuff , sorry. you will not find a mainstream Conan power ranger here.
This movie is made for people who actually understand what Valhalla is. and its shows you from the very first moment the trip of a man ascending there. you can find hidden messages and meanings everywhere. even the fact that one eye is actually one eyed shows something. Odin the King of Valhalla is one eyed. He sacrificed his eye in order to achieve eternal knowledge. As i have things on my mind the end of the movie is the acceptance of this man to the great halls of Valhalla.
One eye doesn't speak. Doesn't make looks on his face. He is a man with a purpose and he has dedicated his self to it. He knows his way to Valhalla and he finds it in the end. Christian's lust for glory and land can not stand in his way.
I saw people believe that the only thing worths watching this movie is the photography and the mountains. Excuse me but i believe that if the director wanted to show you mountains he would have made a national geographic documentary. The mountains here represent the solid will of this man to taste the glory of entering Valhalla. One Eye himself is a mountain. Solid to the bone on his purpose can not be deceived by Christian lust for glory and can not be stopped even by a "dead wind" sea.
Lake of Tears,a band from Sweden, have the best suiting line for this movie and i am gonna humbly use it to end my review.
"i wish , i dream. a dream of mountains side , were i can sit and look down the hill , and say... this is I"
Farewell.
