This is a very touching story about an aggressive ghetto girl who has a look in her eyes that can kill You. One day she gets sentenced to work in a home for mentally disabled people - and then what happens? Does she change and become a good person? The beauty of this German picture is that the predictable things don´t happen. It´s a social character study shot on video, it´s very thrilling and amusing. I have heard the female lead is no actress but a doctor´s assistant and if that´s true then the director should get an award for finding her. She´s a TALENT! I recommend this amazing depiction about German street kids who think they have no other means to express themselves but aggression.
Okay, we have seen fast and furious films where people chase each other and shoot each other and hate each other. But are our lives really made out of stuff like this? Am I an undercover cop, are You an organized criminal? The movie Abgefahren is such a nice example of a gasoline-driven film, which is, in fact, character-driven. The way the girl and the (cute!) boy heat each other up with their witty dialogs is exhilarating. They seem to be like a cat and a dog, both too proud to admit that they love each other, both wanting to be strong and cool and on the other hand longing to embrace each other. Can You imagine Hepburn sitting in a Dodge and Tracy sitting in a Cobra, arguing about who is the better driver? No? Well, watch Abgefahren!
I have seen this film and I loved it. It is an homage to the evergreen comedies from the 40s and 50s. The actors Anne Brendler and Heio von Stetten are charming and lovely and sexy. The music swings You through beautiful images of Berlin and the fast pace pushes You from one ironical, witty and romantic scene to the other. The humor in the dialogues is very nice. Any similarities to certain screwball comedies might be intended, I believe. The director has made a great job.
