Godzilla (1998)
Pretty Good But Yet Decent
Godzilla
Starring: Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno, Maria Pitillo, Kevin Dunn, Hank Azaria, Vicki Lewis, Harry Shearer and Malcolm Denare
Genre: Action/Sci-Fi/Thriller
Rated: PG-13
This is another movie that a lot of people and critics have bashed on but once again I disagree. The movie is about Nick Tatopolous (Matthew Broderick) who mainly studies earthworms until the government reassigns him to an even bigger (and I do mean bigger) assignment than earthworms and that is the footprints of a giant lizard that attacked some Japanese ships. Of course the lizard turns out to be not other than Godzilla which ends up running out and causing havoc in New York. So now it's up to Nick Tatopolous, The Government, Philippe Roache (Jean Reno) and his French organization to stop Godzilla. Now I have never seen any of the original Godzilla movies (the ones that were made from Japan) but from looking at the original Godzilla, this one doesn't have the same characteristics as the original, the original Godzilla breathes fire and is invincible and this one in the movie doesn't breathe fire and is weaker since he gets shot down by missiles when the only thing that can defeat him is another monster. But I most say that I take the design of Godzilla in this movie more serious than the original Godzilla because this Godzilla looks cool and the original Godzilla to me looks funny looking. I didn't like the fact that they made this Godzilla lay eggs because male lizards cannot lay eggs and the whole egg bit was just an excuse for Roland Emmerich to copy off of Jurassic Park instead of staying true to the character. I did think it was funny that this movie spoofed Siskel & Ebert (even though I like Siskel & Ebert) which Roland Emmerich did because they have never gave thumbs up to any of his movies, but Roland didn't even take advantage of this joke and even Gene Siskel mentioned that Roland Emmerich should've taken advantage of putting the critics in this movie. I also thought some of the dialogue in this movie could have been way better but other than that everything else is alright. The movie even had a surviving egg at the end that was going to set it up for a sequel but it never happened due to all the negative reviews. I would've liked to see a sequel to this movie but at least I'm glad that they continued this movie in a cartoon series which was good. Overall just decent popcorn entertainment.
Punisher: War Zone (2008)
The Worst Movie By Marvel Ever! The 2004 One Was Way Better Than This Crap!
Punisher: War Zone
Starring: Ray Stevenson, Dominic West, Wayne Knight, Doug Hutchinson, Julie Benz, Larry Day and Colin Salmon
Genre: Action/Drama/Crime/Thriller
Rated: R
When I heard about another Punisher movie and they recast The Punisher with Ray Stevenson, I had mixed feelings of whether or not to go see this movie. Because I liked the 2004 Punisher movie, that had Thomas Jane playing the title character and I was disappointed that they recast him with someone who I never even heard of. So anyway this movie isn't a sequel to the 2004 movie, because it has no connection at all to the 2004 one, so it's separate to it, a reboot. Anyway, the movie shows some flashbacks of how Frank Castle (Ray Stevenson) became The Punisher, but the movie takes place six years after he became The Punisher. So The Punisher is now after a gangster named Billy Russoti (Dominic West) after taking down another crime family, but while The Punisher is after him he kills an undercover FBI agent and disfigures Billy making him become Jigsaw. The FBI hires Paul Budiansky (Colin Salmon) to join The Punisher Task Force, which basically is a department in the FBI that's trying to bring in The Punisher of course. Frank Castle decides he wants to retire from being The Punisher until Jigsaw starts recruiting a massive army of mobsters, gangsters and psychotic killers. All the fight scenes are all the same everyone gets blown up and or stabbed to where you just want to feel grossed out, the last one was pretty violent but this one is just pushing the limits. Ray Stevenson does a terrible job as The Punisher and has completely ruined it! Originally this was supposed to be a sequel to the 2004 movie but then Jonathan Hensleigh (the director of the 2004 Punisher) dropped out for some reason and was replaced by Lexi Alexander who kicked Thomas Jane off the project and changed this movie completely! This movie is not worthy at all! The acting is terrible, half the dialogue is weak and it was all just an excuse to have a lot of blood shed and scenes were they blow stuff up! Overall, this movie sucks and I will take The Punisher with Thomas Jane anytime.
W. (2008)
Pretty Boring
W.
Starring: Josh Brolin, James Cromwell, Elizabeth Banks, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Richard Dreyfuss, Ioan Gruffudd, Jason Ritter, Jesse Bradford and Rob Corddry
Genre: Biography/Drama
Rated: PG-13
Honestly, I don't know why I'm giving this movie a review but I feel that I might as well do review it anyway. Basically the movie is of course about George Walker Bush's (Josh Brolin) life and career. The only reason I saw this movie is because I thought it would be sort of interesting even though I hate George Bush with the freaking passion and because I wanted to see how Oliver Stone put this movie in prospective. Plus I also heard not only was this movie supposed to be serious but also a dark comedy, but when I watched the movie they took the movie to seriously and didn't see anything funny about it and not even the audience was laughing. The only funny things that are funny about George Bush is when comedians are making fun of him in sketch comedy TV shows. Now the casting for the movie was passable, Josh Brolin did a good job as George Bush and Richard Dreyfuss did an alright Dick Cheney but Robert Duvall I think would have a better Dick Cheney. The main reason why I found this movie boring is because Oliver Stone has this habit with biography movies where he'll start off with a further event, then go back to a past event, then back to a further event, then a past event and well you get the idea. What I'm trying to say is that Oliver Stone didn't put the events in chronological order like every other biography movies. Also felt that Oliver Stone made this movie too soon since Bush was still in office. If Oliver Stone is going to make anymore movies about certain people or certain events he needs to wait for few years to where it's not too soon and putting the events in chronological order! I will say this though, I did like the part where it showed George Bush Sr (James Cromwell) lose to Bill Clinton in one of the past flashback scenes but I say that because Bill Clinton was the last good president and that I vote democrat most of the time. Overall, boring and Oliver Stone really needs to take a break from making movies about certain events (like "World Trade Center") and certain people (like this movie) because he keeps making them soon for their time and if he wants to win an Oscar for movies like this he must wait.
Knight Rider: Knight Rider (2008)
Fun Series!
I was pretty amazed for what NBC did for bringing back Knight Rider in a new form. A lot of people keeping thinking that this series is a remake when it is a really a sequel to the original Knight Rider from the 80's. So basically the show revolves around Mike Traceur (Justin Bruening) who is the son of Michael Knight and is the new driver of the next KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand) which was designed by Mike's former girlfriend, Sarah Graiman and her father, Charles Graiman. A lot of people have been bashing this series and I don't see why they should? I think the show is fun, the acting is pretty good and the show gets me coming back for more action and fun each week. Plus I also liked it that they made the new KITT (voiced by Val Kilmer) to be a Ford Mustang, which is making me want to get my own Ford Mustang. But I think overall that this series is fun as well as the 1980's series.
K-Ville (2007)
When Will FOX Learn!?
FOX just never learns when it comes to good shows, K-Ville joins the roster of good shows that FOX cancels after 1 or 2 seasons. K-Ville is a cop show that takes place two years after Hurricane Katrina and the select few of officers that have remained on the New Orleans Police Department. Marlin Boulet (Anthony Anderson) is a veteran of the NOPD's Action Felony Squad and gets stranded by his old partner in the storm two years ago, Marlin is still attempted to keep some little bit of order to all the chaos that has happened and remains faithful to the city of New Orleans. He meets a new guy named Trevor Cobb (Cole Hauser) who becomes his new partner but has ulterior motives than Marlin Boulet even though Trevor Cobb had a pretty bad criminal past. So Marlin Boulet and Trevor Cobb work together in order to bring justice back into New Orleans as the city continues to get back on it's feet. The show has great plots, Anthony Anderson and Cole Hauser make a great team! FOX just can't seem to even open their eyes and realize that they are wasting good shows like this and keeping some crappy reality shows like "Kitchen Nightmares" and "The Moment of Truth". Overall, good show that FOX should have kept!
Transporter 2 (2005)
The Action Ride Continues!
Transporter 2
Starring: Jason Statham, Alessandro Gassman, Amber Valletta, Keith David, Francois Berleand, Shannon Briggs, Hunter Clary and Matthew Modine
Genre: Action/Crime/Thriller
Rated: PG-13
After seeing the first "Transporter", I didn't expect that there would be a sequel but unexpectedly good enough to make a franchise. Jason Statham returns as "The Transporter" Frank Martin who is now an ex-Special Forces operative and retired from his chosen profession of moving dangerous goods, he now makes his living driving for a wealthy family in Miami. Frank drives the wealthy Billings family's son, Jack Billings (Hunter Clary) to and from school until their son becomes a kidnapping target for a gang led by Gianni (Alessandro Gassman). Now Frank Martin must do everything he can to get the Billings' son back at all cost! The movie has more great car chases and more self stunt work by Jason Statham. I can't wait for Transporter 3! I can't believe how Jason Statham has turned the last movie into a line of sequels but I like it! Overall great as the first movie but see the first movie before this one.
The Transporter (2002)
One Hell Of A Ride!
The Transporter
Starring: Jason Statham, Shu Qi, Francois Berleand, Matt Schulze and Ric Young
Genre: Action/Crime/Thriller
Rated: PG-13
After a few supporting roles, Jason Statham finally gets lead role in The Transporter. In this movie, Jason Statham plays Frank Martin, a man who is a freelance transporter who is hired to deliver a package to an American gangster known as Darren "Wall Street" Bettencourt (Matt Schulze). Frank has 4 rules when it comes to transporting and they are "Never Change The Deal", "No Names", Never Open The Package" and "Never Make A Promise You Can't Keep". He eventually breaks one of the rules by opening the package which turns out to be a kidnapped woman named Lai (Shu Qi). He eventually delivers the package to Wall Street but gets double crossed and now Frank must help Lai by rescuing enslaved people from China. Jason Statham does a great job in this movie and not to mention doing his own stunts as well. Also I like the car chase scenes and the cars placed in this movie. Overall good movie, I highly recommended if you're into stylized stunts and car chase scenes!
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)
The Best Movie Out Of The Jay & Silent Bob Series!
Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back
Starring: Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith, Shannon Elizabeth, Ali Larter, Eliza Dusku, Jason Lee, Ben Affleck, Sean William Scott, Tracy Morgan, Jennifer Schwalbach Smith, Will Ferrell, Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson and Chris Rock
Special Appearances by: Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Shannen Doherty, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, George Carlin, Jamie Kennedy, Morris Day & The Time, Alanis Morissette, Wes Craven, Jason Biggs and James Van Der Beek
Genre: Comedy/Adventure
Rated: R
"Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back" is the best out of the series and the last of the series as well. Jay & Silent Bob (Jason Mewes & Kevin Smith) found out that Bluntman & Chronic (the comic book based on their likenesses) was being turned into a movie that is in production by Miramax Films. Upon from learning about the movie, as well as the negative reaction the movie has received so far on the internet, our heroes set off on their adventure to Hollywood and to stop the movie from going into production. While on their way to Hollywood, our heroes get into a lot of events including Jay falling for Justice (Shannon Elizabeth) who is a member of a group of female jewel thieves (Ali Larter, Jennifer Schwalbuch Smith & Eliza Dushku) as well as being on the run from Wildlife Marshall Willenholly (Will Ferrell). This is my most favorite movie out of the entire series, second being "Mallrats". I also like all the pop culture references jokes and the many turn of events that happen while Jay & Silent Bob are on their way to Hollywood. It's too bad it was the last of the "Jay & Silent Bob" series but at least they ended it on a good note, but they ever do another one then I would love the idea but I'm glad we get to see Jay & Silent Bob again in "Clerks 2" after all what's "Clerks" what without Jay & Silent Bob? One thing for sure without Jay & Silent Bob they never would have had these hilarious spin-off movies of them. Overall, the best out of the whole series!
Mallrats (1995)
One Of The Best Movies Out Of The Jay & Silent Bob Movies
Mallrats
Starring: Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith, Jason Lee, Shannen Doherty, Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, Claire Forlani and a special appearance by Stan Lee
Genre: Comedy
Rated: R
"Mallrats" is the first movie out of the Jay & Silent Bob/Clerks spin-off movies. The movie is about two suburban high school friends, TS Quint and Brodie Bruce (Jeremy London & Jason Lee) who both get dumped by their girlfriends, Rene and Brandi (Shannen Doherty & Claire Forlani), on the same day and so they both go to the mall to forget their loses. While at the mall, TS's ex-girlfriend is going on a dating game show that is being filmed at the mall on the same day while Brodie's girlfriend is going out with Brodie's arch nemesis, Shannon Hamilton (Ben Affleck), the clothing store manager. Brodie asks Jay & Silent Bob (Jason Mewes & Kevin Smith) to make sure that the show doesn't happen and all their attempts ended up failing. This one is probably my favorite out of the Jay & Silent Bob movies next to "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back". Hilarious overall, Jay & Silent Bob never fail to make me laugh!
Clerks II (2006)
Even More Laughs Than The 1st Clerks
Clerks 2
Starring: Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith, Rosario Dawson, Trevor Fehrman and Jennifer Schwalbach Smith
Brief Appearances: Jason Lee, Ben Affleck, Wanda Sykes, Kevin Weisman and Ethan Suplee
Genre: Comedy
Rated: R
It was 12 years since the last "Clerks" movie but in between the first and second we at least got to have 4 spin-off movies of Jay & Silent Bob and a cartoon series even though it didn't last long but I'm glad they made a second Clerks even though a lot of late sequels in this decade (the 2000's) suck except for this one. The movie picks up 10 years later from the last "Clerks" movie, Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) & Randall Graves (Jeff Anderson) now work at Mooby's (a fictional fast food restaurant) after the Quick Stop burnt down. Dante Hicks is now engaged to his fiancée Emma Bunting (Jennifer Schwalbach Smith) and they plan on moving to Florida as Dante spends his last day in New Jersey but at the same time Dante has a thing for his boss, Becky Scott (Rosario Dawson). We are also introduced to a new character, Elias (Trevor Fehrman) who is a 19 year old Christian and who is a big fan of "Lord of the Rings" and "Transformers", he is also frequently subjected to Randall's brand of social abuse. As always, you can't have a "Clerks" movie without our favorite stoner duo, Jay & Silent Bob (Jason Mewes & Kevin Smith) who now hang out in front of Mooby's selling weed and doing other random stuff. Hilarious sequel, I didn't expect that this would happen but I'm glad it did.
Clerks (1994)
A Total Masterpiece!
Clerks
Starring: Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith, Lisa Spoonhauer and Marilyn Ghigliotti
Genre: Comedy
Rated: R
"Clerks" was Kevin Smith's very first film ever made and one of the most successful to this day and age. The movie is about Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) and Randall Graves (Jeff Anderson) who work at the Quick Stop and RST Video (both stores next door to each other). Dante Hicks gets called into work on his day off, so his day is spent in the purgatory of serving a succession of customers while bemoaning the fact that "I'm not even supposed to be here today." His best friend, Randall is less dedicated to his job at RST Video and usually spends most of his time going next door and bothering the customers at Quick Stop and to hang out with Dante. So the whole day goes on with many turning events from playing hockey on the roof top of the store to Dante getting stuck between his current girlfriend Veronica (Marilyn Ghigliotti) and his ex-girlfriend Caitlin Bree (Lisa Spoonhauer). Other than the turn of events this is the movie that introduces the debut of our favorite stoners, Jay & Silent Bob (Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith) who enjoy hanging out in front of the stores selling weed. This movie is a total classic and just excellent. Of course this was also the beginning of Kevin Smith's career as he went on to do spin-off movies of Jay & Silent Bob. Overall, fantastic!
Clerks (2000)
Hilarious Wish It Was Still On
"Clerks" is one of my favorite movies and I discovered that they made a short lived prime time cartoon series that once aired on ABC and I rented this series on DVD and I loved it and I wish they could bring this show back on! But if they were ever to bring it back it should go on FOX or Comedy Central. Basically, the show follows the continuing adventures of Dante Hicks and Randall Graves (voiced by Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson) and their every jobs at the Quick Stop and RST Video and of course dealing with Jay & Silent Bob (voiced by Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith). Also in this series we have two new characters, Leonardo Leonardo (voiced by Alec Bladwin) who is the billionaire antagonist of the series and his sidekick, Plug. Hilarious show and I think it deserved so much better and I think it should have been on a different network since ABC was too picky about censoring half of what they say on the show, if the show aired on FOX or Comedy Central then they wouldn't have that problem! Kevin Smith should really consider bringing this show back.
Semi-Pro (2008)
Hilarious But The Same Stuff
Semi-Pro
Starring: Will Ferrell, Andre Benjamin, Woody Harrelson, Rob Corddry, Andy Richter, Maura Tierney, David Koechner and Will Arnett
Genre: Comedy
Rated: R
Will Ferrell stars in his fourth sports movie, Semi-Pro. Will Ferrell plays singer Jackie Moon who buys the ABA team, the Flint Tropics from the profits of his hit song, "Love Me Sexy". Jackie Moon is a player, owner and coach of the Flint Tropics as well. The ABA Commissioner (David Koechner) announces that the American Basketball Association would merge with the NBA (which did happen back in the 1970's in real life but it's not based off that entirely) but only four teams would go and now Jackie Moon must try to get his team to average over to 2,000 fans in order to get his team into the NBA merge with the help of acquiring Ed Monix (Woody Harrelson). The movie is hilarious even though most of it is basically recycled stuff from Will Ferrell's other sports movies and Anchorman. But I would assume that this is Will Ferrell's last sports comedy movie since he plays the exact same character as in "Kicking & Screaming", "Talladega Nights" and "Blades of Glory". I didn't like how the basketball game scene shots were too tight when they could've been a little wider. Pretty hilarious but I don't think I can see Will Ferrell doing another sports movie.
Ghost Rider (2007)
A Great Thrill Ride
Ghost Rider
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Peter Fonda, Wes Bentley, Donal Logue and Sam Elliot
Genre: Action/Fantasy/Drama/Thriller
Rated: PG-13
Ghost Rider is just one of those movies where you don't have to take it so seriously in order to like it. This movie is almost like the Blade movies in terms of how Ghost Rider fights evil that's from hell but this is way better than Blade. So anyway, Nicolas Cage plays the wild stunt biker, Johnny Blaze who makes a deal to Mephistopheles (Peter Fonda) in order to save his father and in return has to forget about his life and his love, Roxanne Simpson (Eva Mendes). A few years later, Johnny's path crosses again with Mephistopheles to give up his soul to have Johnny become the fiery bounty hunter of hell, Ghost Rider in order to take down Blackheart (Wes Bentley), a son and enemy of Mephistopheles. Nicolas Cage did a great job playing Ghost Rider and of course it's always nice to see Eva Mendes on screen of course. The only thing that I didn't like about this movie is how they decided to put in a villain who turned out to be an easy defeat instead of picking one that would be more of a challenge but then again it's an origin movie so everything has to start off easy i guess. But hopefully there will a more challenging villain if they do a Ghost Rider 2. Overall i'd recommend this movie and I hope they do a Ghost Rider 2.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
OK but could have been better
Spider-Man 3
Starring: Tobey Maguire, Kristen Dunst, James Franco, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, J.K. Simmons, Bryce Dallas Howard and Dylan Baker
Genre: Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi/Thriller
Rated: PG-13
It was 3 years after they released Spider-Man 2 and now there's Spider-Man 3. The first 2 Spider-Man movies were good and there were high expectations for this movie. So in this movie, Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) has finally managed to balance his relationship with Mary Jane (Kristen Dunst) and his responsibility as Spider-Man while Harry Osborn (James Franco) is out for his revenge (with a new green goblin suit) on Peter for killing his father while Spider-Man is trying to take down Flint Marko/Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) for killing his uncle. Peter Parker loses all hope until his suit turns black and becomes stronger and faster but effects his behavior with a darker attitude. Also we finally get to see Venom (Topher Grace) on the big screen after long awaited! This movie is alright but not the best out of the whole series. I really think that putting Sandman in this movie wasn't necessary, I thought Venom should have had more screen time and I thought this movie had too many sub- plots to it. Plus I didn't like it how they made Peter Parker so emo to the point where he acted like a little whiny bitch. Other than those nit picks, I thought the movie was alright but if they're going to go for a fourth movie then they need to not make so many sub-plots and stick to the main story.
Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008)
Harold & Kumar are back!
Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay
Starring: John Cho, Kal Penn, Rob Corddry, Neil Patrick Harris, David Krumholtz, Eddie Kaye Thomas and Paula Graces
Genre: Comedy
Rated: R
Our favorite stoner dynamic duo return in another hilarious adventure. The movie picks up where our heroes left off in the first movie, where they had their night adventure of founding White Castle. Harold & Kumar (John Cho & Kal Penn) are on there way to Amsterdam to see Harold's girlfriend, Maria (Paula Graces) until Harold & Kumar get mistaken for terrorists when Kumar brings a smokeless bong onto the plane and get sent to jail in G-bay. Now our heroes must clear their names as they go on the run from the Homeland Security team led by Ron Fox (Rob Corddry). The movie delivers a lot more laughs for a sequel. I really can't wait for the third Harold & Kumar movie! The only thing that they did like in the first movie was all the quirky situations that Harold & Kumar run into while on the adventure and of course the return of the womanizing (yet fictionalized) Neil Patrick Harris. I also liked how they made a love interest for Kumar and to see how Harold & Kumar were in they're college days. Harold & Kumar are my freaking heroes and I so can't wait for the third movie! Good sequel!
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008)
Very Addicting and Great!
I watched the pilot to this show and I was easily hooked in the first 5 minutes into it. Basically the show takes place of the events of "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" and revolves around Sarah Connor, John Connor (the future leader of the resistance) and Cameron (protector of Sarah and John) when they ended up in the year 2007 and they're fighting off Terminator robots as they fight for the future of the resistance. The plots to this show are good as well as the acting and this show has potential to go far, that is if FOX keeps this show on for while instead of canceling like every other good show. I just like a lot of these futuristic resistance fighter shows.
The Dark Knight (2008)
The Best Batman movie ever!
The Dark Knight
Starring: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Heath Ledger, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Aaron Eckhart
Genre: Action/Crime/Drama/Fantasy/Thriller
Rated: PG-13
This is my far the best Batman movie and the best movie of 2008! Christian Bale returns as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the most hyped and best movie of 2008, The Dark Knight! The movie takes place a year after of the events that happened in the last movie. Batman, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) and Commissioner James Gordon (Gary Oldman) have successfully began rounding up criminals around Gotham City until The Joker (Heath Ledger) comes into town and starts making chaos around Gotham City. The movie plays a lot more of a darker tone than the first movie with the struggling relationship between Bruce Wayne and Rachel Dawes (now played by Maggie Gyllenhaal) and Bruce Wayne's confrontation with The Joker. Heath Ledger does a fantastic job at portraying The Joker and deserves an Oscar for his performance or at least an honorable mention since his death and all. Everything was well written and all well done! The movie may be long but it goes by real fast. This is a most see movie! I hope Christopher Nolan & Christian Bale do a third Batman movie!
Batman Begins (2005)
A Fresh Restart for the Batman franchise
Batman Begins
Starring: Christian Bale, Katie Holmes, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy and Morgan Freeman
Genre: Action/Adventure/Crime/Thriller
Rated: PG-13
I thought the last Batman movie sucked and after that it was a while until one day I saw a poster for this movie and I wasn't sure if this movie had any connection to any of the Batman movies from the 90's until I found out it was a reboot. Anyway, the movie basically a darker story of how Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) became Batman and brought justice to the corrupted Gotham City and takes down Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy). I like these newer Batman movies better than the 90's movies because these newer movies for these following reasons:
1.) Darker story
2.) Actually follows the comic books (for example, like in the Tim Burton movies, Bruce Wayne's parents were killed by The Joker when in the comic books Bruce Wayne's parents were really killed by some street thug)
3.) These newer Batman movies make the 90's movies look like cartoons
4.) Better cast (Christian Bale is excellent and so is Michael Caine)
Christian Bale has to be the best Batman ever to this day and age! I'll definitely choose this newer Batman movie over any of the 90's movies anytime!
Iron Man (2008)
Excellent and Fun
Iron Man
Starring: Robert Downey Jr, Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, Paul Bettany, Leslie Bibb and a brief appearance by Samuel L. Jackson
Genre: Action/Adventure/Drama/Sci-Fi/Thriller
Rated: PG-13
Iron Man has definitely matched up to the same amount of success as the "X-Men" and "Spider-Man" franchises. So basically this movie about billionaire playboy Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) who is known for designing weapons under Stark Industries. Tony Stark gets captured in Afghanistan while demonstrating a weapon and builds an iron suit to escape and later builds a new suit to fight crime becoming Iron Man and to stop Obadiah Stone/Iron Monger (Jeff Bridges). Robert Downey Jr does an excellent job as Tony Stark, I can't think of anyone else that would have done a better job for this role. Well at one point Tom Cruise was going to play Tony Stark until he turned it down, what a relief because if he went ahead did the movie it would've sucked which is why I think Robert Downey Jr was a better choice. At the end of the movie, if you may close attention you'll see Samuel L Jackson appear as Nick Fury. I definitely can't wait for Iron Man 2!
Batman & Robin (1997)
The Worst Superhero Movie Ever!
Batman & Robin
Starring: George Clooney, Chris O'Donnell, Alicia Silverstone, Uma Thurman, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Gough, Pat Hingle and Elle Macpherson
Genre: Action/Crime/Thriller
Rated: PG-13
OK the first 2 Batman movies were good, the third one with Val Kilmer was OK but this movie is the straw that broke the camel's back. OK so in this movie, Batman (George Clooney) and Robin (Chris O'Donnell) are now going up against Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who is trying to turn Gotham City into an iceberg with the help of Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman). After the first battle with Freeze, Batman and Robin's partnership becomes tense to the point where they try to battle out by going their separate ways. This movie includes the debut of Batgirl (Alicia Silverstone), the one thing that they missed up is that in this movie that said that Batgirl is Alfred's niece when in the comic books Batgirl is the daughter of Commissioner James Gordon. I also thought that this movie concentrated more on special effects, bad casting and cheesy one liners instead of focusing more on better writing and a better plot. What they thinking by casting George Clooney as Batman!? Same with Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze when Patrick Stewart or Anthony Hopkins would've been a better choice for the role. I also remember reading that there would've been a sequel to this film called "Batman Triumphant" which was canceled due to the fact that this movie was a box-office failure, if they went a ahead and did a sequel to this movie they would've dug a deeper hole which was why it was best to put 80's - 90's Batman movies to rest.
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
Doesn't even count as Part 3!!
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Starring: Lucas Black, Bow Wow, Zachary Bryan and Brian Tee
Genre: Action/Crime/Drama
Rated: PG-13
I'm a big fan of "The Fast and the Furious" movies but this movie totally ruined it! Now from what I've read is that the next " The Fast and the Furious" movie that comes out in Summer 2009, is supposed to be a prequel to this movie. But why didn't they have this movie be the 4th movie instead of the movie that actually followed up from the events that happened in the first 2 movies? It's ridiculous, you can't just start off a movie franchise and then in the middle of making more movies just put the plot events out of order, it doesn't work that way! So I don't think this movie even counts as a part 3, I will consider the next movie to be part 3 but I consider this movie a pointless and worthless piece of crap! Anyway, the story revolves around an American teenager named Shaun Boswell (Lucas Black) is sent to Tokyo to live with his father in order to avoid jail time in America and discovers street racing and now he has to do street racing in the Tokyo underworld in order to find a way to pay his debt. Like I said, I don't even consider this movie to be a part 3 to the first 2 movies. If they're going to do a sequel they have to do it right and not mix up the order of events! This movie sucks!
4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
A Little Better Than The 1st But Still No Contest
Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Starring: Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, Julian McMahon, Kerry Washington and Doug Jones
Genre: Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Rated PG
After the so-so turnout of the first Fantastic Four movie, I was wondering how were they going to make the sequel better than the first movie? They brought in the Silver Surfer into the plot. So basically the movie picks up two years later from the last movie, Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) and Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) are about to get married and things couldn't seem better. However, the Silver Surfer (Doug Jones) is sent from Galactus to destroy the earth and Doctor Doom returns to steal the powers of The Silver Surfer and now The Fantastic Four must save the Earth from disaster. Compared to the first movie, this one had a little more action and the addition of The Silver Surfer was a nice touch but still the Fantastic Four movies are not going to match up to the success of the "X-Men" or "Spider-Man" movies. Plus I also don't understand why they gave this movie a PG rating instead of keeping it PG-13? I didn't see a reason for them to lower the rating for this movie. I don't think there will be a Fantastic Four 3 because somehow I think it would only make it worse for the movies since they've turned out with two decent movies unless they can make it extremely better to blow our minds. But I would like to see a spin-off movie for The Silver Surfer. I also enjoyed some of the funny moments from Johnny Storm (Chris Evans) and Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis). Overall it was decently better than the first but it still won't match up the high success to "X-Men" or "Spider-Man".
The Incredible Hulk (2008)
This Totally Makes Up For That Terrible 2003 Movie
The Incredible Hulk
Starring: Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, William Hurt, Tim Blake Nelson and Tim Roth including a special appearance by Robert Downey Jr.
Genre: Action/Sci-Fi/Thriller
Rated PG-13
I hated the 2003 Hulk movie, but I'm glad that this movie turned out better and made up for it and not to mention Edward Norton gets to play the title role and you can't go wrong with Edward Norton. Plus this movie got a chance to start the series over again from the right foot considering this movie is a reboot but yet a loose sequel. So basically, Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) is hiding out in Brazil trying to control his anger and finding a cure to get rid of his inner beast while General Ross (William Hurt) is still trying to capture him and trying to stop Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) as he goes out of control and becomes Abomination. I liked it how this movie decided to take only a few minutes of the movie to show us how Bruce Banner became The Incredible Hulk unlike that 03 movie that took an hour to explain how Bruce became The Incredible Hulk. I also liked how they put in a lot of chase scenes in this movie like the chase scene in Brazil made it look like "The Bourne Identity". Plus the fight scenes were good too and they made a good choice to choose a villain that's more of The Hulk's size and strength. Edward Norton also did a good job writing this movie too, he never fails to do a good movie, I hope he does another Incredible Hulk movie or at least make an appearance in "The Avengers" movie. Not to also mention that Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) gets to make a special appearance. Overall this movie was totally better and made up for the damage that Ang Lee did.
90210 (2008)
Better than I thought but nothing compared to the original
At first I thought that this show was going to be terrible since most shows that get remade, the original is always better but this is pretty good and at least we have some actors from the original "90210" appear every now and then. After watching the two hour pilot episode, I wasn't too sure so I thought I better watch next week's episode and then I easily got addicted. Basically the series is about the Wilson family's transition from Kansas to California and their new life in California. It's good to see Rob Estes back on TV again, I haven't seen him on TV since "Melrose Place" (a spin-off to the original 90210). But it's good that this remake decided to do the right thing and have some familiar faces from the original "90210" appear because most remakes to old TV shows don't really that everyday. Other than the some familiar faces, a few of the new actors are pretty good like Shenae Grimes (who plays Annie) is pretty cute and Jessica Stroup (who plays Silver) is pretty hot too. But I wonder why this show went to The CW when the original 90210 and the spin-offs of the original 90210 aired on FOX? But I guess The CW has went all out putting effort into promoting this show and all. But overall pretty good.
